Sorry Paul, I've been a bit slack with my posting.

Here's the new quarter skin tacked on.

Posted Image

And now it's fully welded and rust converted.

Posted Image

The shell is nearly totally rust free now. About time : )

I've also started another couple of projects. One of them is a single cab kombi ute that's getting the fully smooth treatment and a 253 V8 up its bum, and the other one is the purple one tonner that's been in the background of some of these pics. I'll post a thread on the tonner as the owner doesn't live near me and it's a good way for him to see the progress and for you guys to poke fun at me hahaha.

Here's the sexy kombi before I started on it.

Let the paint removal begin. What a pain. The paint just melts in the sanding disc, so takes a while to get off.

Posted Image

I'm making brand new rear quarters for both sides, mainly because of rust and to get rid of the vents and big door on the left hand side. I'll be using the original wheel arches though.

Posted Image

So much fun.

Posted Image

OK, that's enough kombi pics.

Hey Tim, im sure someones asked you before, but what kind of sanding discs do you use for stripping paint? do you use the sandings discs on their own, or after some kind of paint stripper?
also how does that unimig 240 welder go? no doubt you have done a fair bit of welding with it, any problems?

cheers
Stinga

Hi stinga. To strip the paint I use my 2 speed sander/buffer with 24 grit sanding discs. I don't use paint stripper. Well, not if I can help it anyway.

As for the 240 unimig, I love it. It's a great budget welder. I've made everything from thin sheetmetal panels to complete hot rod chassis with it. For just under $1300 it's hard to beat.

Hi guys. There has been some progress on the camaro, but I've had other jobs come through too so my time has been quite "shared" lately : )

The shell itself is now totally rust free, and all the holes around the roof from the vinyl top are now gone, as are the rust holes around the front and rear screens. I also removed the speaker grill from the top of the dash.

The right hand door is all rust repaired and etch primed too. It was similar condition to the other door on the inside, but I didn't need to replace the whole outer skin, just the lower corners on the existing skin.

Monday I pulled the chassis off the car so I could get stuck into the flat firewall. It's nearly ready to get welded on. I like the look of it. Nice and smooth.

I've also started derusting the kombi ute so it seems I'm never going to get away from rust any time soon : )

Well there's a quick catch up. I'll hopefully get the firewall all welded up today, then I can repair the radiator support panel and get all the panels hung and gapped.

Thanks Mick.

Bomber, the corolla is owned by a family friend and I just gave it a few touch ups and a good wax so it's not so hard for her to wash. Why do you ask? Are you looking for something awesome like that : ) hehehe

Aha, Rolla, knew it was something along those lines.

Na just curious......Sadly i can never own a FWD car unless its a MK 1 Golf GTI or an old school Mini....Its just impossible for me to come to grips with owning anything other than those two with the wrong wheels doing the driving.

Cheers.

Good Stuff Tim ... By the looks of it your a person to line an entire pannel with bog to straighten posed to just doing the dints, woofs etc... Do you use an air speed file, orbital or do it all by hand or hand speed file ?

Great work with the rust and panel repairs Tim. :spoton:

I'm surprised how much hidden rust this camaro had in it but it looks like its all gone now.

hahahahah Aido!!!! I get sick of hearing how fat I am : )

Hi shadowmaster. I do try to get the metal as good as I can before I reach for the filler, but this thing has had so much welding done it needs a little bit. If there is a few bits in one area that need filling then yes I'll smear over the whole area rather than doing bits and pieces. I do have an air longboard but I tend to do everything pretty much by hand. Especially with this car as there is virtually not a flat area on it, so I use a few different shaped long rubber blocks to sand the curves.
The longer the block the better : )

Thanks Mick. I certainly hope it's all gone now. If it isn't then it's very very good at hiding : )
