Do your thermos restrict airflow to the front of the rad?

At highway speeds you should be running cooler.

Get a thermo switch for your thermos so that they cut in automatically, I have an A9X rad in my LH and the switch screwed into the top tank is from a Gemini, the thermo switch runs through a relay to turn on the fan, I also have a manual override switch on the dash to keep the fan on.

what temp does the switch activate at, also what type of gemmi is it off?

It was listed as the replacement for the A9X one in the Holden computer.

Well I did it, I put it in.

Massive differance it actually works like a normal radiator should.

The battery has to be moved ( Im running triples)
Brackets have to be made up.
Cant use original engine fan, using a dc31 but a 16inch thermo should fit.
Differant rad hoses have to be sourced.
Front bumper bracket bolts have to be removed/ modified.

So there you have it.

Good to hear that there is improvement....hope its good enough for summer too.
Dont think youll have room for a 16in electric fan unless its positioned over the bottom edge of the radiator(given you cant fit an engine fan in there.

The commo rad sits back about 10mm from the front panel. and the height of the rad is just over 17inches. Should be heaps of room hopfully.

On mine we had to grind the head of the bracket bolt down, angle the top of the vk radiator towards the engine so that a 16in thermo could fit in front of radiator & 80amp alternator will be needed as a 55amp does the job but struggles.

Thanks for the advice on the alternator.

what type of brackets did you use to hold the radiator in?

Wildsix.
Given that you can run the car now, I wouldnt go to the expense and trouble of fitting another fan and alternator until you have established that your setup will cope at 40C+ ambients at cruise without any fan assistance(temp stay below 90C), ie wait til summer.

I used the mounts cut off a wrecked vk from the wreckers. On mine it was fine during the day but at night it was draining the battery running fan, lights & radio. With the vk radiator,16in thermo couldnt even cook lt on the hottest days while sitting in traffic,I also wrapped the extractors which lowered wengine bay temps as well as the cabin. One of the best things I liked about this set-up was that it seemed overkill but at least I didnt have to worry about the car overheating like it used to.
