the best thing to do, is treat the police with respect if you happen to be pulled over. They can really become annoying if you happen to tick them off. I should also include that I am only 22 and dont seem to get pulled over half as much as I did when I was 18 in my red UC hatch.

Every time I get pulled over I do the same thing, I turn the car off, remove the keys and step out and ask if the officer would like to stand on the footpath so they are not in danger of passing cars, ask how their day/night has been while getting my licence out.
I'm always polite and even when they question me and search my car they are never rude or ask the question in a convicting or condescending manner in return.
They usually ask me what I do for a living, I tell them and they end up having a chat about the car and how they would never guess my job for me + the car I'm driving.
Rarely get pulled over anymore unless I have a car full of people (particularly guys) and it's usually to ensure the car is not stolen.
Just look at being pulled over each time as an opportunity to show the coppers how you're not a stereotypical assclown they were expecting and be incredibly polite/nice.
Give us all a good name
Only time I have ever been rude to a copper was when he accused me of doing over 90 in a 50 zone because "he had to do over 100 to catch up to me", I was doing 55.

" Why, can't you read? "
Within seconds he realised he was in trouble.

Funny you should mention this...*Snipped*
Only time I have ever been rude to a copper was when he accused me of doing over 90 in a 50 zone because "he had to do over 100 to catch up to me", I was doing 55.
My Brother was pulled over by a plice officer in an unmarked highway patrol car in sydney on his way home from work...
No one says my brother wasnt speeding... but 147Kph in a 70 zone?? In his stock standard nissan oulsar company car?? yeah Right!!
to cut a mammoth story short... It went to court.. the officer LOST. ( He lied through his teeth and got caught out. ).
My brother has a bit of an attitude but he's not stupid... We all have times wehre we come into contact with officers of the law and some are much nicer in demeanour than others. As most people here have said, Just be as polite as you can, and thats about it!!
I dont suggest for a moment that you take something that's dished out wrong like Loki pointed out, and my Brother fought and won... But be polite.. Write it all down including their name/badge number... and bring up any gripes in court where you can both have your say!
Cheers

My cousin ended up having heaps of drama with that. He has an old corrolla which he's had for years now. He was pulled over by a unmarked car load of D's. They did him for neg driving, speeding and talking on a mobile phone. None of which he did, as he could tell that they were cops following him and he's not a total moron anyway. They gave him enough fines to take his license, searched his car and treated him like complete shit. And my cousin is a really nice bloke, he works behind a bar, he knows how to deal with people. Since then, he was then pulled over every time a copper saw him. Even in his home town which is 400km's away... He was pulled over and interigated over and over. His mum had a mate who was a sergant or something and she asked him if he could look into it for her to see what the story was. Turns out that he had been blacklisted as he was originally mistaken as a nortious drug dealer/crook in sydney by those first set of D's. The crim had the same first and last name as my cousin but the surname was spelt slightly differently. So obviously they did the rego name and the name rang a bell in their head and they thought "Lets get this prick" and pulled him over and f*cked a perfectly inocent guy over and wrongfully booked him for three offenses which he didn't commit just to stick it to him. This totally #@$^%& my cousin over, he ended up dropping out of uni over it as he couldn't get there due to not having a license.
Even if they hadn't made that mistake and my cousin was the criminal which they thought he was, do you really think it's fair that they pull him over just to 'rev-him up' and book him for offenses which he didn't commit, in the interest of "justice"??

I live in Mackay, and haven't heard of it down here yet. Looks to me like your car is very neat, if it was run down I could think that the police would pull you up, for any reason to look at the car. I recall the same harrassment when I was in Sydney, just out in a nice car lowered HD, new paint, 8 inch rims worked motor, and get pulled up all the time. They ask why is the car low, loud etc etc. I seem to have a pretty cruisy ride these day, guess being a fair bit older helps. Still it is very unfair, hope they ease up on you. I was always very polite and answered all their questions. Then I got pulled up on day, by a cop who had pulled me up once before, so he could show his mate my car. From then on I had no trouble, Regards Simon
