And Bomber how did they rip you off?

Got my prop shaft off them.

Upon getting home i realized the keyway on the engine end was very sloppy, had .015" play, which is totally unacceptable.

Two unreplied to emails (nicely worded) and five unanswered phone calls later, i gave up trying to get onto them about it.

didnt another speedboat driver pass on last year aswell i had seen these type of boats race at the bundy thunder and opened my eyes it was sweet. there are some brothers here in town that have a fast boat aswell "bad intent".

those pics will be very useful,

i tell ya,those guy,s racing these boats are the bravest on the planet,one time down the hawksbery river,brian was letting a bloke from the USA,drive his boat,there was this other guy that had a slightly larger boat,that had what looked like and sounded like almost a top fuel engine,there was no way he could hold it flat,way to much engine.

not too long after a big block blown job disintergrated,peices of boat everywhere,the most scary shit waiting for the divers to retreive the driver,luckly for him he was ok,took a few minutes to get him,but it seemed an eternity for us all waiting.

the sound of these boats coming down the river flat biscuit,is one of the most awsome things around.

those historic hydro,s are beasts.

That sump looks a pretty good design Craig! We have done a lot of work for Noel Griffin's bridge to bridge boats at work...... specifically turbo manifolds and water to air intercooler setups. Noel tells us his current twin turbo big block Chevy boat we did the same work to is doing 150mph at just 56% throttle opening pulling 2 skiers!!! He says he cannot find skiers strong enough to go the full distance any faster than the mid 130mph zone. Reckons he has had the boat near 170mph at 72% throttle on his own, testing on one of the dam's up here and it had more but scared the crap out of him. :blink2:

He laughingly says B.O.A.T stands for "Bring Over Another Ten (thousand)". :lol:

Mate, id love to come up and give you a chop out. I spent a few yrs being bankrupt through boat/ski racing. Maybe we spend a day or two on the boat, then we go out on one of your adventures and dig me out a hk monaro....lol

If you get stuck with anything, sing out as boats are one of the few things im competent at.

yeah craig,

big dollars in boat racing,bring over another 10k,hehehe,

my boat so far owes me, 2500 for all the glass,hull ,seats, rear platform,rear mount engine cover if i ever get rid of the pipes,not likley,100 hrs in my labour free to me,i have a nice 327 that brian mccosker built,ported heads,rollers,copper head gasket o ringed block,new pistons, bearings,full arp stud kit,new parts all round,off the dyno ran 320hp so he said,was built for nitros,a fella had it for a lh torana,project fell in a heap,engine sat in shed for 10 years,was turned over frequently,anyways scored it for 1,500,without carby and ignition.

trailor with guards 1,200 so far,so this is a poor mans build but a person that can work and not talk

other fittings ,sump, pipes etc swapped for holden parts.

finally got some pics that are clear, will give you a few options,

this is a 6 cyl but the idea is the same for a V8
the motor was coupled to a stern drive and used a duplex chain not a bolted flange,
note the plate to secure bearing

if you have side bouancy tanks that form a floor then I use an angle iron frame,
this one is ally, side mounts and soft clutch buy or make,
replace gear on gearbox front shaft with a flange and bolt to jack shaft
need to make a plate to hold bearing and mount to frame

this one bolts to engine bearers have one for the rear as well but didn't find it

there are a few good options for me to consider,

with a V drive i,m lead to beleive there are different angles,how do you know what angle you would need.

i like the look of alloy engine plate in last shot.

you need to know length of hull, position of fin, position of motor. seating arrangement, distance between transom and dash,
that will give you prop shaft angle and you get a box that is about the same
you also need to have an angle on your jack shaft as well, if it's straight there is no movement on the unis
I would work from front seat positions as this will be a family boat and needs to be comfortable and easy to use
you made this boat but is there a commercial version? some one that fits them out to sell, they would know where to mount things a lot is trial and test
that front one is ally and can easily be made from flat plate (steel or ally) with angle brackets to act as feet and bolt into frame

the moulds that i used,were owned buy a boat manufacturer in sydney and these moulds were kept out the back of his buisness,from what i was told this boat builder bought the competions buisness and parked the moulds.then about 8 years ago a bloke that lived in sydney bought all the moulds and moved to the country.

they approched me and i restored one of the moulds,and started making them,only centre mount,with dog clutch,i basicly made them from start to finish,made own harnes,fitted every part,there was no future as the boat is old school.so i have no knowledge on the rear mount set up.

nice work, excellent finish on the glass, the molds must be in good nick or you waxed and polished them to buggery
if you send me the measurements of the hull/deck and how you set up the centre mount I will work out a gesstament from one of my hulls
seeing as you are setting it up and are certainly competent with glass you could always make small changes later
worse case you move the box or motor a few inches, doesn't take much if you are real fussy
looks like about 17 ft

hi,

found some info on the boat,

got onto the guy that has made hundreds of them years ago, steve maybury of maybury marine,he was very interested in boat and helping which was great to hear,childsplay gave me his number.

the prop angle is 9deg
,argo V drive 14% could someone explain the % deal,
prop11.5 14,
also the V drive can come with a warm up clutch,can someone explain that as well.
The boat is 18 foot long,the engine i,m going to get started with is 320hp will the 14% be right.

14% is step up, so the prop will be doing 114% the engine speed.

Warm up clutch is just so you can disengage the prop shaft to warm the engine up.

your a great help,with the warm up clutch i thought i may have read somewhere that the engine has to be shut down to engage,but i,m not real sure what they mean,t.
if you don,t have one is it direct drive?

Not entirely sure, never owned one.

Theres three types, direct drive, warm up clutch, and velvet clutch. Prices increase as you read along that line.

Velvet is basically a car clutch in there, nice and smooth, as far as i knew you could use a warm up clutch wtih the motor on but it is quiet aggressive? Basically a dog clutch i think.

Not entirely sure, im still learning to, just piping up with basic stuff i have picked up

Some other guys on here will be able to explain better/correctly.

the warm up clutch would be a dog type arrangement which means for usage the boat would be direct drive, go for the soft clutch "velvet drive"
the 14% would depend on your prop, 2 or 3 blade and size, hp of motor/revs and usage. lower % for skiing (pull out of water), higher for top speed, same as car diff
in my 18 ft boats I used 9 degree skeg, 10% box, 12/12 3 blade prop for ski, 12/16 2 blade prop for racing, could still use this for skiing as my skiers were experienced and dry started.

sorry guys il just correct one thing velvet drive is actually Forward Nuetral Reverse, Soft clutch is exactly the same as a car clutch except operated by hand and you dont need any rev's as you slide it in! Dog Box Is A set of gears that mesh (most ppl start them in gear or you get a nice clunk sound) Direct drive is exactly that as soon as the engine is fired up the prop shaft is spinning
