I watched the PINE PAC Group A Mustang barrel roll itself to death on the weekend at Morgan Park,,...I suspect the front left Simmons ..There was a loud bang..at full noise at the end of the straight..then it tuned right and barrel rolled..This is my opinion only...but the wheel came back in a bucket...so make your own conclusions.See pics..
Now it has been said.."I will just get a new shell and build a rollcage"..the old one is..hmm..less than good and away we go...It is on MY105 at $140k...is it/will it be the same car?..Let the opinions begin. The son was driving and is OK.I am sure Johhno (meanmachine72) will jump in here because he has an opinion on reshelled Torana race cars.

what a terrible shame that is if it is the real car. Glad the driver was ok, looks like a bloody big accident

Notice the front left rim centre and rotor..I would suspect the rotors are new, the rim/centres are 25+ years old.

They want 140k for a rooted car ?

What do you get of use for that money?

An engine that needs rebuilding,a box and maybe some trinkets?

Regards the bodyshell, its only a pustang, who cares what they do with it.

its hard to say in my opinion if it should get re-shelled or not. Obviously on one hand you would want your car back, but then on the other hand do they call it a group a race car still or would it now become a replica?

It would be come a replica.

Personally though if it was mine and i had the money i'd rebuild it with a new shell, will still be basically the old car, just not the real car anymore.

Cheers.

I've looked at a lot of metal fatigue over the years and shit, I can see the grain in that failed wheel even despite the low res pic.

Have you got any closer pics? You'd be right in saying that wheel failed, rotor damage looks like the after affect of high speed and close proximity to asphalt.

Grant..

Oh, and it's a race car - add a spare part and go racing again :D

Re shell it, Go racing again and you wont be scared to rub it up. If your gonna race it, your gonna crash it one day.
Its not a replica if its using most of the original bits. Have a look at the Bob Jane Camaro and see how much of the original shells left.

It's not even a proper mustang. Ford haven't built a real mustang since 1969. All the new crap is just trying, and failing.

My bid is now $151.00 as I feel one rear wheel could mount a garden hose and the other would be a good workshop clock : ) I guess the motor could be fun in a sigma or something. At least it would look better : )

fix it up and continue the cars history, it's a race car and the shell is only one component , just like all other consumables.

but as far as the wheels go..........well certain types should be past there use by date ! , for racing at least.

got me thinking about those rebels on saggy now !!

Damm shame gad driver OK and metal can be rebuilt, no issue with reshell,
the main reason I never my Torana was I always felt you should never race a car you can't afford to totally write off and I was never that rich

Tragic to see any old race car take such a hard series of hits. It must have been pretty spectacular to watch Rory.

If it's reshelled then it can race again but not as a Group A car in the A/C category.

There are two of these PinePac Mustangs. The other one races regularly in A/C.

why can't it run as a reshell, it would not be the first? If the documentation and the log book shows the reshell, it should be in order....

It's a shame to lose a genuine Group A car - there wasn't that many of them. Put on a new turret & right rear corner, pull the rest straight so the car retains it's Group A credentials.
