I think the time has come to splash the cash again and fit up a drop tank to my LH sedan

Anywhere in melb decent and cost effective. is it worth having the mob who make it up fit it aswell,

I'd like to go strap less if i can aswell.
I have an SLR cluster, do the tanks come with any elec components to make the guage work or should i just have an external fuel guage mounted in the car instead.

Cheers

Brown Davis in Holloway Road, Bayswater made most of the tanks for the Group C Toranas. Their senders work with the factory guages. If you are capable of fitting it yourself, then save the dollars. otherwise get them to do it.

quote from Brown Davis

we still make many alloy drop tanks to suit your Torana, they are fully
baffled and come in a mill finish polish.(all our performance car tanks are
fully baffled to eliminate fuel surge)
back in the 70's we made most of the touring car alloy racing drop tanks and
still make road car tanks that look exactly the same
(we still make race car tanks for the current V8 supercars as well)
our standard tank for the Torana is 120lt (smaller tanks can be made as
required) and is designed to take the
standard pickup/gauge sender assembly, fills through the standard filler
spot & connects to the original venting system to keep it roadworthy, they
have no ugly straps under them but bracket into the chassis rails as did all
the original race car tanks
1/2" pick ups & swirl pots can be fitted into the tanks for EFI or big
engined cars as we make
them using the original pickup as the return if needed
all our drop tanks fit under the standard floor so the vehicle structure
does not change - you do not have to cut the boot floor - no registration
problems
our standard tank cost is $950.00
depending on which state you are from you will not need an engineering
cert. - our tanks are approved in all states, we are on the list of approved
manufacturers in WA, NT & QLD.
we fit an ID plate to keep in line with the rego requirements in specific
states
delivery varies between 1 to 3 weeks

darn, means i gotta spend more.

that price seems pretty good, havent asked anywhere else yet but that price is within my range.

Thanks for your help LX_SS.

Definately getting on that deal i think, whats the general feel of a drop tank without flares and only 215 wide rear bags in a LH sedan. Hot or Not?

If someone has fitted one of these tanks, any chance of some pics to show how it is mounted to the chassis rails.

Thanks in advance.

I think it was 950 plus delivery to my door. i had 1 once before and are the best imo. simple to fit up only 4 holes need to be drilled i think from memory and uses your original sender unit and fuel filler off your old tank.

hmmm, I might have to get a new one, its not worth buying a secondhand no name tank for $600 when you can get a new brown davis one for that much.
or I might just sump mine so I can get a decent pickup and a few more litres capacity

Do brown davis make the ones with straps as well? Personally would prefer straps since I'd rather not be drilling holes in the cars. Besides the straps aren't ugly and do suit especially if the tank has "indents" for the straps.

I understood that the strapped tanks need to have holes drilled as well.... Could be wrong....

Brown Davis can modify stock tanks, but I think it's over the $300 mark.

The strapped drop tank I have fits directly into the existing bolt holes of the standard tank. Not sure what brand it is though.

Talk to david at brown davis, He's a top guy!

From whathe informed me straps are illegal in some states so all his tanks bolt to the chassis of the car.

My tank from them fitted like a glove and i bolted to the chassis with no drama.

Cheers!

Brown davis tanks standard are $950 if you want a surge tank in built you will be looking at extra 100-150 on top of the standard price.I think that you will also get 1/2" fuel output installed with the surge tank option but will still have the standard fuel line installed as well.Hope this helps.

JNR ATE, I'm not sure about the 80 litre tanks. They make the 120 litre standard but if you really want a 80 litre they can make you one but it will cost heck of a lot more as it will be a custom job.To be honest you shouldn't really have a problem with the 120 ltr tank unless you are running a very low car and 13" rims.
