Due to a number of factors, with the main one being legality, I have decided to go Small Block Chev with this build. I will be selling off the 2 big blocks eventually......anyone want a Shafiroff 540?

I bought a Dart SHP block for CHEAP!!! From Speed Pro:

Some Pro Topline 200cc . 64cc Chamber alloy heads:

Aiming to build a reasonably budget 400ci donk, making around 500hp.

The front end is coming together nicely too:

mate your car is very nice, love the colour and that it will look stock.

shame about the big block, but those small block can punch out some big numbers aswell.

as a matter of interest what would the runnung 454 with out extactors be worth, and what internals does it have.

Hi. The 454 is a Mk4 block, 2 bolt, with a cast crank and rods. SpeedPro Hyper pistons, Comp Cams solid, approx [email protected] and 550 lift. 101cc chamber oval heads, with lunati springs (130 lbs), comp collets and retainers, guide plates, Comp roller rockers. It has a Holley strip dominator. It is fresh and yet to fire. I will be asking around 4k for it, depending on what accessories I leave on it.

I concede these motors are great in most areas, but I am fairly old school, and love the classic old chev's.

Now with a SBC, I reckon I could sneak it under the bonnet, making my sleeper goal more achievable.

I am 99% convinced I am going to install it and use it for a year or so at the drags and events, then build up the small block.

That 99% may evaporate after a few runs.

Motor is in (dummy fit), but the 'off the shelf' pipes I have for it foul the steering shaft. Hmmm, I might be making some custom pipes for the old girl me thinks.

Had the same problem with my mates HQ, simple fix was to move the coloumn over in the base plate 1cm. You will never notice it.

I thought id update this project after a large hiatus.

The car is basically finished (are they ever finished).  I have run it at Perth Motorplex a few time with a best of 10.68@127 on its 2nd run.  I was hastily told to slow down or get booted out as I have no roll cage etc.  I have run it to the 1/8th mile markers for a 6.70 which works out to be a 10.40.

Over winter i will attempt to finance a roll cage etc so I can go fater and aim for 9's.

I wonder at what speed the sun visor would become a problem.

The grandpa spec trim is cool.

Good job at 127mph, she has a good 9 in it.

For street sleeper bit of a bitch about having to have a cage.

Gotta love the Q with the bench. The old front bench seat springs where well known to collapse over the passage of time.

Someone surprises you and snaps opens the door (with no seat belt on) you fall out.

Long thought with the nice sized engine bay the H series should have had BBC standard (good for tractor pulls) LOL

I got booted out of the motorplex the next meeting.  Ran a series of 10.60's and the official said enough's enough.  So that left me in a pickle.  Not allowed at the track, and I want to get this car registered.  SO I made the big call, and slowed the car down by selling the big block and installing a small block to enable easier rego.

I have just got the 383 going and have taken it back to the track for some testing.  It went 117mph but was very boggy off the line.  Should be good for a low 11.
