Thought people following this thread might find this amusing!
Love the mk1 escorts all my mates were into them when we were younger, although sadly they have all moved on from old (real) cars now.

I have done a tiny bit more to this little beast though. But not a lot.
I started by stripping out the doors and welding up all the holes for the chrome trim that used to go around the side windows.
I also welded up all the holes where the sill trims were, the aerial, the drivers side mirror and the chrome trims around the tail lights.

It had been rear ended at some stage, so the floor was pretty crumpled, and the corners of the rear quarters didn't line up properly with the bootlid. With the rear cut out it was a lot easier to get everything back into shape.
It's not a big difference, but it's an improvement. It wasn't out by much, but it would have looked terrible if I'd left it.
I just like this pic.
Trial fitting the new rear panel.
All welded.
The lower edge of the tail panel is just a single skin, and very flimsy. I thought I'd weld a piece of RHS into it to stregthen it up.
I'm now in the process of sanding it all down for etch primer.
I was hoping to get it etched this morning after delivering the 1955 kombi ute to the owner now I've finally finished it, but it's pouring with rain, so that puts a stop to any of that!

My brother wants A/C, so we thought maybe some holes in the front to let some decent air through would look cool.
I orignally thought about five 2 inch holes, but they didn't look right.
So I went up to 3 inch holes, and spaced them apart further. I like it.
I'm using stainless steel rings to form the holes, so they have a nice rolled edge and will help support the panel after I've hole sawed out so much.
Tacking in the rings.
Weldy weldy and I had this.
Then some sanding.
Using the wire rings gives a nice radius to the edges. Kind of like how I did the front indiciators on brothers torana, except I didn't know these rings existed then so I had to make them : )
Peek a boo : )
That's all for now : )

Welded on the end of some tube would be an easy way to make trumpets.....
Cheers.

How long have you left cars in only the rust convertor? Do you then give them a quick sand, wax & grease remover then etch?
John.
