Hi John. I've got parts of my firebird which have been in rust converter for over 5 years that are still OK. When it comes to priming those bits I'll rub them back with 80-120 grit dry then reapply the converter. The next day when it's dry I'll sand it again and etch over that.
I hope that helps.

Mick, which kombi are you talking about?

The one that had the corn cobs in it. It was looking pretty sweet in the last lot of photos.

Dirty, not to tell you how to suck eggs, but here goes anyway...
Welding stainless to mild steel causes a reaction between the 2 metals and will rust. I'm not certain but I think it has something to do with the nickel content in the stainless. Anyhoo, it's just bad practice.

That's what I've been taught from well experienced boilys and fitters alike anyway.

I know you know what you're doing and well experienced yourself, but I just wanted to put it out there in case you think it's worth a reconsideration.

Love ya work as always mate, you're a credit to the muscle car community and to this forum!

I'm still trying to get a weekend leave pass so I can come up and see ya some time soon too!

Contact of dissimilar metals will cause oxidization yes, but you need an electrolyte (water usually) for this to occur.

They look fairly easy to seal properly, ergo there shouldnt be an issue???.

Cheers.

You're probably right there... Boilys and fitters don't like painting stuff.

I'm sure Dirty knows what he's doing. B)

Afraid not. The plug has been pulled on the build. Hopefully I'll get around to building it for myself one day. Until then it can just wait : )

Well I've been mucking about with this little beast again.

I scored a decent 2 litre with a bit of work done, extractors, twin webers and a 4 speed. Will do nicely : )

Then finally got to fitting the flares.

I also made a bit of a start on the roll cage. I've only done the main hoop so far but it's still a start hahaha.

And at last the wheels. 15x8 and 15x10 superlites. Very happy : )

Here is a little inspiration from the last Fast and Furious movie. I like it.
