225/50 and 245/50 are common in 16s, go to 17s and the easy to get ones are 235 and 255... Toyo still do a lot of useful sizes

Wider than 245 is very hard in a 16. In 17's still lots of choice to fill out the guards. I have to have full fat rubber myself or else performance suffers and it looks like cr#p.

255/50R16's have been unavailable new for some years in Aus. There IS one new tyre still available that's wider than a 245 in 16", but...

It's a bit too big for your average car.

I checked with my tire guy today... he said nothing off hand available in the 255/50-16....but a 245/50 is easy....the BFG was a pretty decent price.

the rims are HQ stud pattern, been quoted $45 ( per rim ) to drill/ sleeve them out to commodore pattern
Tyrepower (moss st) said the biggest (legal) tyre i can put on the 9.5 is a 295/50/16r
& a 255/50/16r for the 8.5

$45 a rim sounds ok.
Can't wait to see these in action.

Getting them redrilled is easy...but what about the tires ? Maybe they are easier over there, but the 295/50-16 in BFG (which is who did them over here most commonly) have not been around/for ever back order for ages now as far as I know.

Got em drilled out to commodore pattern.
Dr wheels @ yatala was very helpful.
Very suprised when the 9.5" rim bolted onto the rear.
Not much clearance with 255 50 tyre though :(
