I've been busy helping a mate with his Toyota Corolla AE82, and what hes pretty much done is stripped his 1 owner car, and purchased a running AE82 genuine 4AGE liftback to do the whole twin cam engine conversion(from single cam carby)...auto to manual swap.....carb to efi...and convert the drum rear to 4 wheel disks.
The old mate has been doing heaps of powder coating, painting, cleaning etc in preparation to re-assemble this car. I must say myself it is coming together very nicely!
Anyway.......I was commissioned to build his engine, and thought I'd pop a few pics up of it being re-assembled.

those are good little donks. good performance and are indestructable. i had one for about 120k and every time i drove it it saw 7400 when the road opened up. i actually found it could shoot flames on the standard computer. easiest way is to put the clutch in then just hit the loud pedal from full on to full off really fast and the flames will come. :driving:

Looks like an early big port version.

Basically i direct copy of the cosworth BDL engine.

Noice stuff, used to have a 4AGZE, late model small port map sencored one, 165hp standard. Never got around to putting it in anything sadly.

Cheers.

Looking good, I've never seem someone use crinkle coat on the valve covers, it looks really nice. I daily an AE92 with one of the small port 16v redtops (last and best of the 16v), had it for about 6 years and it still runs like rolex.

Second best engines in the world....

Moot! PICS!

Blacktop head on a GZE block? (oil squirters etc)

I built a AE92 SX seca for my missus, 100kw Smallport, freshened up, bit more comp, slight portwork etc etc.

Was a fun little car! Was quicker than most v6 commodores and handle great too!

I'm always on the look out for aAE92 hatch cheap to have another play with eventually.

Not sure what it is like over there but round these parts these engines are extremely popular. In RWD format they have been chucked in almost every small/light car found here.

I don't ever want to sell mine, trying to track down a barn to leave it in for the next 20 years...

I stuck one of those engines into an AE71 back in about 1988. Designed and manufactured a manifold through a pattern maker in Revesby for a pair of 45 DCOE webers (at that time injection was so much more expensive) and reground cams, balanced etc. It was so quick. We had to MAKE valve shims from Fiat ones because you just couldn't buy anything for them back then. Did a flat 12 at Oran Park and getting traction in 1st and 2nd was a huge challenge.

I had a blast in that car!!

cheers
Glenn

Its the same here Sam, AE86/AE71//KEXX RWD chassis conversions are hugely popular, and the FWD AE82-AE92 crowd have a massive following too.

They make an absolute shitload of parts for 4A engines all over the world, the guys in peurto rico are doing insane things with 4AGEs too.

There is a guy on the twincam.org.au forums, username BAZDA that does excellent custom bits and bobs, races an AE92 levin in superlap champs in NZ, likes to boost the ass off 4As haha

i have a ae102r sprinter as a hack/run around.i have a had 2 ae82's one with a big port and another with a map sensored gze,i have had a ae92 with a silvertop 20v and another ke30 with a tough as nails 2tg.

the 4age i'm doing now is basically the same as the backyarder corolla engine, he spins it to 13k and makes 670kw at the wheels

This engine is the early silvertop bigport engine.......7 rib block minus the oil squirters!...I have more pics of this car, and we have pretty much started from a stripped down shell, and are putting in some new lowered suspension, bigger sway bars, new Pedders Struts all round etc etc. Have just finished re-installing the rear suspension, fuel tank, fuel lines and plumbed the new wiring loom from the ass upwards.

I will be posting more pics as the build progresses, as I am quietly surprised at the interest recieved on this post actually. More to come!!

Thanks for your nice comments all!....stretch

Backyarders thing is absolutely nuts! hands down one of, if not the wildest 4AGE powered drag car in the world.

AE102 sprinters were a bit of an abomination! haha.

Stretch, we may be reasonably one eyed, but everyone has their little secrets! haha

haha, I suppose they are like a mini, rustier version of the torana (the early KEXX models anyway)

Just a shame the panels are so bloody thin!

I wouldnt mind a KE10 or KE20 at some stage, but the prices are a bit silly for some pretty big shitboxes.

I had a KE55 for about 2 months earlier in the year, bought for $130 with a weeks rego, rough as guts, but running a 4k, 5 speed combo, flogged the arse out of it for a week, sold for $550 on ebay :)

Nice engine build! Love the finish on the cam covers. Yea I didn't realise there are quite a few rolla fans here!

In a good few years time, I'm planning to do a silver/black top conversion, probably small turbro in my aw11 mr2, but still im just amazed at how it just keeps on ticking, had it for a few years and it's a daily, gets hammered and all ive done is oil and filters, top donk!

Anyway....a little more on the progress of this little screamer!...Got the new rear suspension in......converted from drum to disc....installed the fuel tank and in-tank fuel pump and ran the fuel lines up to the firewall...painted the engine bay white, and started bolting brackets and manifolds onto the engine.
