Ok!....Finally finished bolting all of the engines ancillaries and we are starting to run the interior wiring and dash loom so we can bolt the dash back in. Progress has been a little slow, mainly because the owner has been busy powder coating, painting and ploishing everything to bolt back on this car. Im keen to get the engine off its stand and start bolting the frshly machined flywheel and clutch to it and connect the box up to it.

Once that sdone we can sit it on the cross member and lift the front end up and over the engine and box, and bolt them up to the chassis. I must say I really cant wait to see this engine sitting snuggly in the bay...........a small step closer atleast!!

Just another quick update....we have finally got the engine off of the engine stand and bolted up the machined flywheel, new clutch kit,new flywheel bolts, and had new seals put into the gearbox. We bolted up the gearbox to the engine and hung them both by a sling to my engine crane. New engine mounts were fitted to the powdercoated crossmember and this was bolted to the front and rear engine mounts. We figured the best way to install the engine was to place it on the ground and lift the body over the engine and support the front end by stands and block and tackle the engine upwards until we were able to get the 2 side mounts(one off the timing cover and one off the rear of the gearbox) lined up and install the bolts. With a little "jiggling" the engine and box was bolted in place and the crossmember bolted up from underneath to the rad support panel and the underside of the firewall. Prior to fitting the motor and box to the engine bay we had to fit the steering rack (were not going power steer on this car), TIG in an extra bolt to the firewall on the cockpit side to mount the computer and run the engine bay wiring loom through the firewall and hang it off to one side ready to "plug this engine in". Shifter and cable assembly were then fitted ( as this car was originally automatic) and then connected to the gearbox selector arms. Manual pedal box was then fitted and the clutch master and lines connected. In the coming weeks we are going to run the engine loom and connect this little engine up and fire it up for its first run. Front suspension is ready to be bolted in and all the steering assembly has been either powdercoated, painted, polished or cleaned to within and inch of its life. The bilud quality of this little car is amazing and the owner is both methodical and meticulous in his approach and preparation of every component of this car. Anyway, I have uploaded a few more pics, and in the coming weeks I will update this thread as things progress....thanks stretch

Im slapping it together for the minute and getting it regoed.

My father inlaw has been without a car for a little while due to a few family blow ups, so I made the deal, I'll buy the car, fix it and buy the bits, he can rego it and drive it for the 12 months, at the end of the 12 months he can get a loan and buy a decent car, I'll take the corolla back.

For what it will cost me, and what I paid, I will definitely come out ahead in the long run if I decide to sell it. But by that stage I want to have the ute stripped, so will need a second daily runaround for Karlie (my missus)

I built a corolla for her a couple years back from a $350 dunga that had a hit in the front-

Was nothing overly special, just a tidy daily, Rebuilt 100kw smallport, minor headwork, full length extractors, hi-flow cat and exhaust, monroe GTs and kings and it still handled excellent.

Was a great little car.

Well............"Twinky" is now finally finished and driving on the streets. I was allowed a drive in it a few days after the owner had given it its maiden shakedown and he was happy with it. To say its a punchy little beast is a total understatement....wow! I wasnt expecting a measly 1600cc engine to perform so well. I was seriously expecting this car to be soggy down low in the rev range and come on strong mid-high revs, but this thing is very very spritely all through the rev range. I only saw about 5,500 rpms and this thing felt so strong, and certainly felt ALOT bigger than its 1.6 litres.

I told my mate that I was just going around the block, to get a "feel" for the car. Well.................after about a 30 minute squirt around a few more blocks and main roads, I decided I had better return back to his place so he could pry the keys from my hand and attempt to remove the huge grin on my face with a cold beer! This car would have to be one of the most fun small cars I've ever driven, and I found myself likening it to an RS2000 Escort a mate owned years ago with a worked Pinto Engine with Twin Webbers and all the fruit. I kinda want one of these cars now, and I'm seriously considering looking around for an original Twin Cam 16 AE82 Corolla for my daughter to learn in when the time comes.

I'm still grinning at the way in which this un-assuming little car performed, handled and they way it stopped. And to think I still had another 1,500-2,000 rpms until redline makes me appreciate the hugggggggeeee following these little engines have. GREAT FUN!!!

Here's a little video to try and give those that dont know anything about these cars, a bit of an idea as to their potential.....The car in the above youtube link is not standard, but still runs the 4AGE engine.

haha, people always underestimate the potential of AE8/92 corollas.

Handling and a bit of poke = great fun!
