Hey peoples..
Well I couldn't help myself.. I have got another project! I heard about the old girl sitting in a shed near Sydney, turns out it only had 2 owners and had been sitting un-touched and un-started for 17 years!
I got her delivered by a truck, and it arrived a few nights ago..

I then gave the interior a hit with armour-all.. and was quite susprised with the condition of the seats etc :D They rear seat has 2 minor tears, although the front seat will need the springs repairing and some sewing work.

I then put some oil in each plug hole, and let it sit for 24 hours - hoping to free up any stuck rings etc. So last night I blew out the cylinders with some air, replaced the old oil, and got her winding over by hand. Bit by bit, it started to free up. After some more mucking around (had to replace the fuel pump), the old bugga fired up and was soon idling over - running like a new one! No lifter noises, no knocks, nothing!! Woo hoo!
The plans are to respray it in the very near future, rebuild the brakes, white wall tyres, and fix up those interior problems. Looking forward to it :)

If most of it is there, that's half of the battle.

Love the HRs, I've had 2 sedans, 2 vans and a ute, but haven't owned one for about 20 years now. I used them as cheap daily drivers and to tow the dirt bikes around back in the 80s

The good old days...

Will be starting work on her around November :) Unfortunatly I haven't had time to do any major work on her yet. I am deferring uni for around 7 months (due to various reasons), and during this time I will be spending heaps of time with her in the shed!!

This is the plan at this stage:
Dismantle the interior/exterior, but hopefully leaving the drivetrain in (minus the motor).
Strip out the engine bay, repaint/restore to original condition and rebuild the 186.
There are only 2 rust repairs to make, which are on the bottom of the front gaurds. You can buy the replacement panels for these sections, so that will be the plan :)
Bare metal the body, do the panel work, and then respray with the original colour (including the dash, rims etc).
As the interior goes back in, I'll clean/respray everything and get the springs in the front bench seat replaced. At the same time, the broken stitching will also obviously be repaired as well :)
New tires, exhaust, inspect the drivetrain, and then hopefully rego!! :D

The resto has started!! No nasty suprises (rust) thankfully.. apart from the bottom of the front gaurds, and one small section in a front door. Will start stripping the driveline out next weekend hopefully :)

I 'found' an HR back in '96. Almost identical to yours, 186 with 104,000 miles, powerglide, but had a grey interior. When I lifted the 3 layers of wet carpet the floor still had white paint on it!
All the opening panels closed with a finger tip. Only thing I did to get it on the road was ditch the crossplies.
Only car I wish I had never sold!

I've been busy in the shed lately.. things are going really well!! It is pretty much ready for a trailer ride into town next week to get some sand blasting done (engine bay and boot) :) Have found some car cancer though.. doesn't look that bad though (yet)

Why did I always think that HR's had a disc brake front end? Is that an option?

I miss my old HR. Looking good mate. Did you post a pic of the stencil on the front end on Facebook? I saw something similar on a page the other day.

Thanks guys!! Yup.. she was originally from Tas, but the Tassie owner had it in Sydney at the time the rego expired.. so that's where she stayed until now. I am putting it on a trailer tomorrow and then taking it to get the engine bay and boot sand blasted next week :)

Slr_v8: I think I did yeah.. good old facebook, small world hey!
