Are you sure it is a Uni students signature?

Judging by the style of script and I would put the age of the writer in the 50+ range of the spectrum. I could be wrong, but I do look at signatures all day.

You look to be on the money with the name though, I would agree with J Barringh--. I have tried a couple of other combinations but no hits. I may be worthwhile, as someone has suggested previously to go to the electoral office witht he picture and try as many combos as you can. You would be surprised how many people aren't listed in phone books, for whatever reason.

SLR5640 - looks like "J Barrington" to me. Judging by the handwriting (the "r's particularly) I would say it is definately an older persons signature.

Thanks for the suggestions.
3.0L I agree its and older style of writing. Looks like another trek to the Melbourne Library to see the electoral rolls.
74 Kermit I will give Barrington a go as well in fact I 'll try any thing with Barring
mag5000 pretty sure that's an "a" not an "o" for the second letter.
As 3.0l states its probably not the students signature.
Stuffed if I know.
I'll give it a shot any way maybe his dad wrote it out!

Well I went and checked a heap more names and made heaps of calls but didnt come up with any thing.
Thought I had something there with one phone call. The person said their dad used to own a SLR5000 years ago however itlead to nothing.
I have been thinking of putting an add in the paper in Wolllongong and Canberra.
I have found the Advertiser for Wollongong and the Canberra Doctor for Canberra. Could someone from these cities advise if these are the best ones to use?
Also I came across this dealer decal. Would any one be able to say that it is from Dwyers City Holden? Maybe its an early one .

I have also discovered that there was another owner between Tony in Sydney and the uni student. Once again I don't know any of his details apart from the car used to be in the Belconnen area. Narrows it down a bit more at least.

I have had some one reply to my post on the ausmusclecars.com forum which I have also run this search on. He hasn't gotten back to me yet but he knows someone in Canberra who owned a red A9X in the 80's. His name is "Tassie" Brown. Just wondered if any of the Canberra residents on here may have any clues as to who he is and his first name?

Well I haven't heard from the guy above and he wont reply to pm's so not sure what the deal is there..
Anyway I got hold of Peter Dwyer who is the current dealer principle of Dwyer's other franchises. He is the son of Austin Dwyer who was the dealer principle of City Holden around the time the A9X's were sold. Unfortunately Austin has passed away and Peter couldn't recall anything..
He did give me a name of a used car salesman of the time. He is Tony Donovan. I dont think he lives in NSW any more. Supposedly went to QLD to sell real estate.
I also rang Gateway Holden ( previously Dwyer's). Talked to a guy in the service dept. who went and asked their road tester guy if he could remember the cars as he was working for Dwyers back then. No good there either as he left for a time and returned after the A9X's had come and gone. Cant get a break at the moment!!!
The service dept guy is going to ask about a bit for me ,hopefully he can come up with something.
I may try and chase up Owen Dwyer as he was a partner with Austin at the same time. However this goes back to 1945 when they joined the company and he may have passed away as well. Not sure whether to go there or not.....
Also I have come across a 1990 publication called "Holden Up Front" that has a picture of a Steve Dwyer from Dwyer's Holden.
So there's another name for me to chase up however speaking to Peter he doesnt know of any Steve Dwyer so maybe its a misprint.

I have had contact with the guy from the ausmusclecars forum.
The guy who owned a red A9X in Canberra in the mid 80's is Scott Brown.
I believe he may be in Queanbeyan,
Whilst down at the Island I dropped into the State Library again and checked this name on the electoral rolls.
There are 5 there who live in the ACT
I have eliminated two and the others dont show up in the phone book.
In fact it doesn't list a Scott in Queanbeyan but one bloke I talked to says there is wasone living there.
Perhaps he is passed the voting age if this is possible.
There are three I need to track down .
One in Nicholls.
and there are two who live in Evatt.
Could someone please help me out if they may know these people?

Hi SLR - my suggestion is to ring every person with the surname Brown in Canberra - eventually you will find someone who is related to him. A fairly common name but Canberra isnt that big. Alternatively the electoral role will have given up the address of the 5 people - whilst they may not be in the phone book you can always knock on their door or send each a letter - a bloody long drive from western victoria so a letter might be the go.
cheers

Its a bit of a long shot, but it may help you find the original owner.
Ring Water Skiers Warehouse at Granville NSW.
Ask to speak to Neil Harris.
Neil had a new SLR 5000 at one stage, and also some other horn machines at different times.
Pretty sure he would have known the tyre dealer.
I remember the tyre shop from around 78 myself but cant remember the owners.
Have another couple of leads I will put some ground work into for you as well.

Probably a really really long shot but does it have any evidence of being raced?
I have PM you with the experience I had with my car. Keep going mate, I can tell you are hungry to find the history and this is what will get you through.

Thanks Kerm74,
I have already called a few Brown's in the Queanbeyan area but no go as yet.
The guy from the other forum is going to track down his phone number. He knows how to get hold of it. I just have to wait patiently!

Rockoz I will give Neil a try, I am not too sure about the tyre company any longer. I think I was being led astray but you never know.

and H81837Q as per my pm to you, this car has been raced all right..........but not on a race track!

No , no updates.
Just waiting to get hold of this guys phone number. All I know is he owned a red A9X in the mid 80's.
It may be a totally different car but a very good lead to go on.
I've still got to ring Water Skiers Warehouse and talk to Neil.

hi guys, ive just looked at signature and i studied caligraphy in grade 8.the J could be an I then comes B and maybe an O,if it was an a you would see double the pen marks as on the start of the B.then double R,then MAYBE AN EINGL.the last letter appears to be an L and then a fancy finish, which was common in that era.
BORREINGL.you can see how fluent the pen moves with only some letters doubling back on themselves.the last letter you can see is doulbled back and could still be a H.the G could be a Y as well.
im no expert but thats how i see it .
maybe scroll through the script section in windows and see what you can come up with.
i have script on my arm and thats how the I in Isabella is.looks like a bit like a j,but its not.

Hello Hainzy,
It would be nice to get the info now before it is too late,
I am beginning to run out of enthusiasm though. If nothings come from Scott Brown I dont know were to go.
lx-304 I tried a heap of names in the white pages borreingle ,borrengle, borringle in every state but no names showed up. I may just get out the phone book and check Borr..... I thought it was Barr....
Anyway I will wait on Scott Brown and if he is the previous owner I wont have to track this name down any more.
Thanks for the info its a great help..

Rockoz,
I tried Neil Harris and he couldn't add anything much .
He thinks being a Wollongong sold car the first purchaser would probably have worked in the mines.
A lot of cash was floating around in that area apparently
I have been in contact with a forum member who knows my car and doesnt think it is the Scott Brown car as his went to WA.
Might be a dead end but will wait and see!
