Ls is substantially lighter than a 2j, So im guessing closer to the BMW engine.

2j is a heavy sucker. Heavyer than a 308 i believe.

Cheers.

You have my attention good sir!

Firestorm: can you school me on a lsx into e30?

what do you do about the brake booster? engine mounts? ecu? sump?

I would love firestorm to come back and give a big rundown on his ls into E30...... as apparently there is not to much difference weight wise.

LOL sorry - been busy last couple of days.

Brake booster needs to be removed or re-located. I'll be running a manual pedal box underdash so it's a non-issue for me. There's a guy in the states that sells a hydroboost setup and the rest of the engine mounts and such to fit a lsx http://www.r3vlimite...ad.php?t=177608

Sump needs to be notched at the back to fit over the steering rack.

Ecu/wiring is pretty basic on a ls1, not rocket science to wire up. All body electrics are seperate on e30's from the engine wiring so nice and easy!

Few other guys have done swaps in the states, have a look around on r3vlimited forum :)

I started mine before those guys did, bought a bunch of gear off a bloke in the states that decided to sell up.

Unfortunately like most, the lack of money got the better of me and she's sat in a million pieces for a few years now...

Got my own business running nicely now so hopefully i'll have some spare cash and most importantly time to play with it! Although i think the LH might take priority hehe.

I'll upload some of my trial fitment pics over the weekend so you can see a bit more if you'd like.

Sorry DJ LS1 it is!! Just purchased wrecked HSV VY R8. 260 KW, 6 speed and 130,000km's. It is a stat write off. Probably should have sorted out the registration bit first!!!

The only downfall is whether or not the authorities down there will allow it. Up here airbags are frowned upon. Personally, having been in cars with airbags that are set up well, I like them.

Spoke with engineer in Melbourne today. He was brilliant. All good with motor. It is calculated like this. Tare weight of car multiplied by 5 equals maximum litre capacity. So car weighs 1370kg x 5 = 6,850. Therefore could actually go up to 6.85 litres!!!

Given car has 4 wheel disc brakes that is fine although l will be upgrading anyway. His main requirements that we need to meet are as follows:

1. Engine needs to have 15mm clearance all round from engine bay
2. Engine needs to be around 30mm from steering rack
3. ECU needs to have sign off about something?? Not sure but Dirtbag will be sending ECU to CastleAuto to do whatever he needs and apparently they will supply appropriate certificate.
4. Due to EFI petrol tank will need to have some stuff done due.
5. Wants to sign off on custom engine mount brackets before final weld.

So very happy as l thought engineering certificate might have been bigger issue to get done.

Spoke with Dirtbag tonight and he said he is going to start pulling the car down in a few weeks!!! We are in discussions about a few cosmetic details that l have been thinking about like smoothing a few external bits and pieces. He likes what my thoughts are so far. Going to be brilliant working with him on this after watching his builds.

Gee thanks Grant but I think l will be right!!! My theory is to smooth exterior not bulk it up. But that color scheme has given me ideas. NOT. Cheers Damian

Thanks for that I haven't seen that pic. It's a long term project but can't wait for it all to come together. Seeing that car for the first time just made me want one.

Same here. E9's are such a great shape.

Can't believe I haven't seen this thread until now! Just had a read of your plans... so awesome!

The wheels you've chosen will look fantastic. And the LS1 and 6 Speed will make it heaps of fun to drive!

I just got back from Europe and happened to go to the BMW museum in Munich, I took some grouse photos of the E9 race cars there... will post them up later on tonight if you're interested.

sledge I have been waiting for you to chime in. You realize this is all your fault!. I saw that photo you posted in the random picture thread and it just sent me off searching for one. I was supposedly finished doing up any more cars so The Minister for Finance took a lot of convincing!! Would love to see the photos. Post them up.

Cruiza motor is already a done deal and at Dirtbags ready to go. I ended up buying a write offf HSV VY R8 260kw and 6 speed manual. Will do just fine I reckon.
