Nothing in the engine bay has to be touched. I have to adjust the trans tunnel a little but only because i'm running a dry sump on mine (fits a little further back that other swaps that have been done).

The ls1 is a surprisingly TINY motor!

That's an e9 engine bay...looks like a front sump ls1 will fit with plenty of room.

So is an LS2 the same size engine? There is one on eBay at the moment with 6 speed and all the other bits that seems good value.

So Dattoman what do you think l should be budgeting for a good LS1 with 5 or 6 speed transmission and all the bits like wiring loom etc etc??

Jeff what would I get an LS1 and gearbox for out of the states with all the bits and pieces as above?? Also taking into account delivery to Melbourne??

Didn't notice before that it's a 2009 model year, so that's probably not bad for one that new.
An LS1 would be a decent amount of years older than that..so of course would be cheaper to start with at least. But an LS2 or 3 if in the price range of course is a nice step up on power and displacement :D

After doing some reading last night l think l would stay with an LS1. The body on the coupe will need a fair amount of reinforcement because l have read about the chassis flexing as it is with an upgraded inline 6. This is of particular concern with the E9 because there is no window pillars.

So l am thinking a reconditioned LS1 with a bit of tinkering, custom hearders and good exhaust system will be good enough. It will obviously be a cheaper option also.

Anyone know of good reliable suppliers of these engines in Australia that they could recommend?? Also might be simpler if they were in QLD and closer to Dirtbag as it would need to go there. However probably not a big issue as could get sent up to him.

if your going the ls1 route just buy a complete damaged/unlic vt s2 or later
sell off what you don't need to recoup some costs
for under 3k you can get a lic running 2002 statesman here and someone has got ones over there a LOT cheaper

Yep, that was you get all the little bits and pieces you need. Gives you a donor loom too of course.

Like here probably, were you can find a complete car for close to what people on ebay, etc are asking just for the engines.

My LS1 and 6 speed owed me a couple of grand I would say a couple years or so ago when I got it.. (had about 60k miles on it)

your right too much power better stick with those stone age donks

On that note I did a search and the general consensus is that they are too tall and long. Also with the 2jz they are heavy and will destroy your weight dist. I would love firestorm to come back and give a big rundown on his ls into E30...... as apparently there is not to much difference weight wise.

When you say not much difference weight wise do you mean between original BMW motor and LS or do you mean LS and 2jz??
