well im really starting to get some miles on it now, went for a cruise with 2 mates down to foster-tuncurry to go and look at a show and shine, was a great turnout, until some dodgy looking bloke tryed opening my passenger door, told him to FrOck off before I get the cops, than 5min later the cops have him for breaking into someone elses car,

the ute went well up and down the highway, kept up with both my mates xr6's, its even got power to squeal the wheels in 2nd (really proud about that) just need a radio and a few more ponies under the bonnet to help get up capehawke lookout hill, had it back to 2nd even with a run up :(

but all in all had a great time crusiing around, and the ocastional race between the lights and see who can hit the speed limit first :P

he's locked up now.

well got pulled up today on my way to school, and well being my first time, i was kinda shitting myself, he took awhile to get out of the car, than he walked up the passenger side and around to my door, and all he said was to wash the bloody thing as a classic shouldnt be this dirty, he shook my hand and said get to school ahaha.

So there's another nice copper in the area :)

on the bad side, my $50 gearbox is starting to get quiet noisy, but i guess you get what you pay for. ill just nurse it for awhile to i can put a kit through it, or ill just throw the 5 speed in.

and talk about bad economy 18L per 100 for the past week :(, i might need to wear lighter shoes aahaah

Haha that's funny!

Chuck the 5 spd in it if the 5th gear is overdrive & that'll make it a little more economical to run, but the right boot never helps though! lol  :3gears:

Stick with the 202. A few go faster parts will make it better on fuel.. once you've gotten used to the extra grunt, two less pots to feed, and no front coil spring swap.

And a warm/hot/mental six sounds better anyway (wait for it...)

cheers dave,  what sort of change in economy have you got with the 2:78 change,

but a v8 does sound good aswell, front spring swap doesn't bother me, done it heaps of times with all kinds of cars, stock 253 gets fairly good economy compared to stock 202,

Yes please Dave.

Info on RPM in top at 100kph would be good if you are still running the M22 box and how are the other gearbox ratios working out with the 2.78 ?

Had a HZ van ages ago running a 202 and 3 on the tree.

Dropped a 253 auto into it and used about half the fuel with a good bit more grunt.

Best bit of work I did on the old girl.

I,ve tried a 3.36 and then a 3.08 diff behind the old 179, it hated the tall gears! Eventually ran a 3.9 for about 12 years. When the 202 went in I quickly went back to 3.55, but have a VN diff (with VL 3.45 gears) to fit soon.

I was getting as much as 24.5mpg with the 179/3.9/5 speed, but haven't taken the 202/3.55 away yet to check, but seems better than I expected so far.

im getting around 20Lper 100 so about 15MPG, 3:55 4 speed stock 202, its not good especially when im only working part time, and ive always heard good things about 253s being good economy, v8 with a twin system sounds good, but so does a 6 haha, these hard choices

I prefer the handling with a 6 in the HQ - WBs.

If you drive up and down hills a lot I think you'll find that a 253 auto will use a bit more fuel than a well tuned 6 and 4 speed.

My 253 sedan is good on the highway but definitely uses more fuel than the 173 and then 186 van ever did. The 173 was amazingly economical and went ok once it was moving. Only had extractors and electronic ignition. I could get around 800klms from a tank with careful driving.

Single 2 1/2 with the 253 sounds better than twins in my opinion.

Smoother sound.

I had extractors as well.

I used to carry a fair bit of weight in the van.

With the 202 it was foot flat a lot of the time.

Was getting less than 15 mpg.

With the 253 same load was getting around 20 mpg

Didnt need foot flat so much

well did a huge cruise last night with alot of mates, 20 p platers in total and a fair bit of highway and around town drive, with about 4 steep up hill pulls in 3rd, covered about 200ks and i did about 16L per 100, which is quite surprising seeing as i was giving it some stick to keep up with xr6's, xr8, commys and a 265 val, i guess that tune up help

ive even thought about a efi 304 5 speed, but it just all comes down to funds, a 253 that in good nic is cheaper than building a hot 6, but im just another 17yr old that cant make his mind up ahaha,

well ive never been a fan of gumtree but went on it yesterday and found a wb ute, no diff or doors, and fairly rusty, rang up and went and got it, got there, and has complete 202 4speed, shifter is like brand new no slop at all, big uni tailshaft, big front sway bar, complete cable clutch setup, chassis is still good so could always do a body swap and probably more things that i can get off it, the price was just unbelievable....... FREE. so it now sits here at home up the back paddock with all my other past paddock bashers and cars ive been given and collected :)

thats for for sure gene,

well i had abit of a scary moment yesterday, driving to town as "normal" and my fuel gauge is still sitting on empty, and i hadnt gone anywhere since friday, so i thought either dads taken some out, or my fuel pump glass bowl is broken, so i went straight to the servo, as i hit the bump going up to the servo the gauge went straight up to half, so just drove through the servo haha, these old cars and there personality's but as sure as hell i would never want anything else
