Got talking to a bloke at work and he was saying he bought a chamois l34 brand new, can't say I've ever seen one must of been a rare colour for a l34? Does anyone know how many were made or if there are any still around?

Not sure, D Train, i have never been aware of that colour L34, Outer Control should be able to confirm it for you, in fairness to your mate, a lot of people back then , thought that all SLR 5OOO's were infact L34's, ive quite often had people say to me when they look at my L34's, that they used to own one, but when you ask some questions about their car, they are actually describing a basic SLR 5000!
But if that car did exist, and is stll out there, i would say it would a rare colour l34 indeed, good luck with the search.

I was thinking the same thing, i honestly don't recall it, i think it was introduced in the LX range, Outer, or Red would know exactly.
Maybe the fellow was referring to a 4 door A9X, NOT AN l34?

He seemed to know his stuff, he swapped the l34 for an absinth yellow A9x hatch. And also owned one of the rare falcon surferoo Utes from new. He's been working underground his hole life so wasn't short of a quid back in his day. He also recalled paying nearly 9 grand for it. I too was a little sceptical at first like racer8 said but after firing a few questions at him he seemed to be on the money. he said he ordered it specially in that colour, wouldn't of been one of my choices but each to their own I guess.

The LH range was definitely available in chamois. My guess was the L34 was a special order for that colour.

Well if he swapped his L34 for an Absinth yellow hatch he went from one rare colour to another considering only one hatch was made in that colour. I'm not sure on the L34. Did he buy the hatch new or second hand because that yellow hatch spent a few years in my shed.

Well I owned 2 LX hatches in chamois, one SS one SL. I looked at buying a chamois LX SLR5000 that came from the factory without any of the black paintwork except for the window frames a few years ago. I know of an LH SLR in chamois, and one of the Holden promo pictures the SLR5000 was chamois. There was also a chamois LX SLR5000 for sale a few years ago at shannons. There were a couple of A9X's made in chamois as well.

The A9X was bought new as well I'm pretty sure. I'll have to ask him again but I think he said he bought them from Melbourne and had them brought to Mandurah WA if that lines up with your records?

He said also he has a bunch of photos, I have to see if I can track some down

I think I have seen a chamois L34 unless it was a 5000 with flairs, GTS wheels and round head lights but I did not check the tags and and I can say I have seen quite a few Torana's in this color unless there is some other beige I am confusing it with. So it is possable they made L34's in that color, cheers Aaron

i thought chamois was introduced later in the LH and Hj models, well after the L34,s were built.

All L34's are 74, but I think (could be wrong) chamois was around at the time as I know there was a promo picture of a chamois LH SLR5000.

checked out the magazine i got last night, its only for A9X productions..
it says that there were a total of 9 A9X's made in Chamois.
4 were Hatch's
5 were Sedan's
3 of the sedans had the G70 (2.60:1) diff gears, the other 2 had GU4 (3.08:1)
all hatches were with the GU4 diff gears
2 sedans and 1 hatch had State Black interior
2 sedans and 2 hatches had Chamois interior
1 sedan and 1 hatch had Tan interior.

Im scanning in the pages at work and will upload 'em when i get a chance. Not entirely sure how accurate this information is, some references have been quotes in the story tho. hopefully someone out there can confirm this
