I heard the original "builder" sold it to the current owner for $80k. So i reckon the new owner must a figured out what he got...

At any rate, regardless of profit or cost, its a low dog act....

If spending this sort of money wouldn't it be nice knowing the car you are buying is on a register. I've bought this up before as have others we need to get a register happening. Nothing wrong with rebodies, missing a tag or engine block as long as the car is not being misrepresented. If on a register you can buy with some degree of confidence and know what you are spending your hard earned cash on and pay accordingly.

Cheers Dave

Why do some of you think re shellling is all right as long as everyone is told, it's not. It totally wrong dishonest in every way and it's illegal. Funny when the old dollar is involved the rules are bent. How can you reshellling if it's illegal to remove the cars vin and body numbers?

The way I read the Qld laws about fiddling with a vehicles unique identifiers,  even the authorities seem to think it's ok as long as you obtain written permission from the Police commissioner before you start.

I think I have seen this car, white lc Bathurst. Was it pale green and then painted white? If so I have the drum brake frontend from it.

I was wrong, I have bent XU1 frontend with the the extra holes, maybe from CK car.

thats why he was running the 1969-1970 front crossy when i pionted it out to him in his original build thread

Looks like the XU1 that came off had a pretty hard impact on the drivers side.

^^^ Yes, it's bloody obvious isn't it John.

yes mate it is along with a few other things around the car, and to the original engine i would be making sure that block is one of the ck build dates, g191, or f231.

because it was strange how that just popped up out of the blue.

cheers gong

John, If it is the car I am thinking of the engine did NOT just pop up out of the blue.

The original engine happened to be in a Torana LC "S" which was only about 1k from my work place.

The owner of the XU1 (?) got in contact with me and asked me if I knew where this suburb was and by coincidence it was very close to me

and in fact I had already approached the household some months earlier to ask whether the Torana parked out the front was for sale.I was informed that their daughter

who owned the car was overseas (wanted what I considered too much for it )and I didnt bother about it untill I was informed about what engine it had in it.

In the end I pulled the original "CK" block (engine) out of the car and supplied the the owner of the standard LC with a reco GEM engine.

The CK was then sent off to the owner of the XU1.

Unless it is a different car or someone has since changed the engine over I have no idea,

but I know at the time 6-7 years ago(????) it was a ridgy didge XU1 CK block.

As far as the rest of the car goes, I have no idea as I have never seen it.

Cheers.

You have the right person and it is the correct CK engine just the wrong car for the engine. He found the engine through a bloke at Vic roads as stated somewhere on the forum. I watched over the years as they build the car. I'm betting now he wished they fixed the original shell. The original car had been hit so hard it bent the floor pan. At the end of the day you can never trust a caryard salesmen even if it's your mother.

thanks for clearing this up mate, i only was iffy about the engine after knowing that the car had so many other dodgy things about it.
