Ahhh I see, I only started taking an interest in the thread not long before he sold the car so that explains why I never saw those deleted pics.

Fortunately he was d&%b enough to not delete them all. lol.

Cheers

Dave.

Just been looking at the Dodgy Tags thread and saw an add for a tag only which stated "This plate is being sold for collectors / display enthusiasts"

Is this legal... ? I was told that it was not. But the thread suggests that some have been sold on ebay like this, though it was some time ago.

What exactly is legal... ?

Taking them off and replacing them for a paint job, for example... ?

I doubt that the authorities check to see if this has been done, but technically is it legal... ?

Ice its not illegal to sell them, it immoral to sell them for sure, its illegal to place them on a car that they don't belong to, if it was illegal to sell them the Police would have stopped ebay by now you would think.

Ok, then here is a part that is easy to see. This is claimed to be a 1971 LC GTR XU1. Can you find what isn't right about this XU1?
And we are not looking for the LJ type radio recess in the plenum that John has already discussed.

I wouldn't place too much importance on the green colour you can see on the floor pan. It's more likely to be green spray putty, quick stop putty or high fill primer to smooth out the weld where a replacement floor pan section was installed.

......not sure about all the effort some namelss guys go to...just how much $ can you make from doing this?
Obviously a bit, otherwise it wouldn't happen.
But by the time you buy the original car ( whatever it is/was) and do a rotisery rebuild, paint, panel, interior, wheels, tires etc etc etc etc...and then say you were selling for mid $50,s ...get haggled down to low $50's , the dealer / broker takes a bit.....just how much is actually made? Tax free.

If all the above was done for your pride and joy and you just loved it and enjoyed it, then happened to sell it a few years later, and made a few bob, well that's all you can ask....but ( speaking generally ) ..if I set out to replicate at Group C car or similar and sold it for $250K...the costs just aren't so relevant....but on a $40 - $60k car????
