Hi blair.

As has been discussed above, your car sounds like it is an S model LJ & these didn't come from the factory with a handbrake warning light switch. One similar to a SL or GTR one could've been fitted by the selling dealer, but from your description it doesn't sound like one has. It should have a pressure differential switch mounted on the junction block near the brake master cylinder. This operates the BRAKE warning light on the dash.

Is there a problem with your car that we can help you with ? Is the light stuck on all the time perhaps ?

Ok...got it Dr T.  - I'm used to elect drawings showing what is physically there.

You have now updated me to understand that the Torana ones are 'something' like what is actually in the car, and

the non gen. ones are even worse.

thanks, no probs.

Hmmm, very nice. Is that Gunmetal Metallic?

Looks like yours is an S model. The vin should start with 8B69 (Torana S) or 8C69 (Torana SL).

If it was built before Oct 72 those numbers will be either 82369 (S) or 82569 (SL).

How does blair know if it's a 73 build if he can't see the brake pressure valve or the model number.

It could well be that the seller told him it was a 73.

Besides I was just relating what an earlier build would have as model codes for those interested.

OK, you have a point.

Just thought you hadn't noticed he says it is a 1973 model.

What's the Chassis Number? - I notice in the picture that the car has clear indicators.

Cheers

Hi Bazza.

I noticed that also, but I wonder if this car was built in NZ, & NZ production may differ in some of the ADR areas, simply because don't have ADRs.

On that topic, it might not have a brake pressure switch for that same reason.

Hi Blair

No idea what that number is. Is there a number stamped in the engine bay on the inner passenger side guard? It should start with ALJ or BLJ

Cheers

blair.

That looks like the VIN. Are you sure the first digit is a 3, not an 8.

If it is, it reads 8B69 & is an S model.

Col, it has the brake pressure differential switch.

Blair, Gunmetal Met is a 1973 LJ colour. Your interior trim colour is called Ash. For all intents and purposes your car appears to be a 1973 LJ S model.

Front seats and footwell kick trims are from an LC Torana.

To test the dash brake warning light simply disconnect the wire (bullet connector) from the switch and earth it to one of the brake pipes then turn the ignition to the ON position. If the dash light doesn't glow then you have either a blown bulb or there is a fault in the wiring.

On the other hand if the brake warning light is glowing continuously with the ignition ON and the wire connected to the switch then the switch needs resetting or you actually have a problem with the brakes.

Attached File  heater.jpg   155.05K   6 downloadsHi Blair,

I got my heater Box through Rare Spares , im happy with the product it came with all the internal control systems but you need to find a fan cover , some clips (go accross the front) , screws or bolts to hold the fan cover in place , fan assembly & motor , heater core or have a core made up for you. So yes you'll need to get some bits.

^ that looks like a nice unit... there's also a complete (but scruffy looking) set up on TM at the moment Here that might have some useable bits.
