Ok, cheers Dave.

Nothing to do with it running rough then.

I might need to try your in cabin timing rod Dave.

It isn't liking low revs but when it hits the sweet spot look out, she's off like a shot.

I tried to do the timing with a timing light but the mark on the pulley is not getting anywhere near the timing marks.

Definitely better than it was running before though, baby steps.

all the good tuners i used to know time by ear and check after with a light plus holden harmonic balancers are known to move out of wack over time/high revs...i never bothered with a timing light in my younger/cheap ass days
sounds like the carb to me but
either to little or to much fuel...
check your float level....

Yeah but its a different carb and I had it going alright, then tried to get it better which made it worse.

Its hard to tell until you drive it really because it is only bad when it is under load.

I've got some new points and plugs there for it and I'll get some new leads cause the old ones are looking a bit worse for wear anyway.

I will also check my float level.  :P

I had a 'no start' issue once. Got to work, parked and switched her off as usual. End of the day she would not start. Tried everything too, check carbs, dizzy, leads, plugs, etc. Borrowed the bosses Beddy to go home and grab a spare fuel pump, swapped with no difference. Then some smartarse... the boss, said 'any fuel in it?' 'Course there is, I drove it here didn't I?' Anyway, I gave the tank a tap... bone bloody dry! Musta used the last few mils backing it into position. DOH!

I had one many moons ago that had a similar problem, I tried swapping carbs and electrical stuff. In the end it was a blocked fuel filter that was installed in the line underneath the car. I also try to never run these old girls with less than 1/3 of a tank otherwise they start to suck up 40 years of crud from in the tank.

Good luck, it will be good to see another Torana on the streets of Perth.

Got her running good again now, I think.

I won't really know till I go for a drive.

Been dealing with some other problems though.

Namely a couple of things that wouldn't open, my passenger side rear window and the boot.

I finally got a reply back from the previous owner and he told me to use the round key for the boot, not the square one.

I don't have the round one, he doesn't have the round one, so that left me with a couple of options.

or

I put a torch in the boot, put my arm through one speaker hole and looked through the other.

I managed to get one bolt out, but didn't have (couldn't find) a socket that would get the second bolt.

So off to Bunnings and looking a bit more serious.

Attached File  IMG_0802 (Small).JPG   79.18K   6 downloads

A bit of fiddling and a lot of swearing and viola!!

Attached File  IMG_0799 (Small).JPG   84.33K   5 downloads

I had a quick look in here when I inspected the car but have to say I'm pretty happy with what I found.

Bathurst Tank, no rust, and also some evidence of GTR heritage in the boot lid.

Attached File  IMG_0806 (Small).JPG   67.84K   5 downloads

A spattering of orange paint and also a couple of patches where the GTR badge used to be makes me a happy boy  :spoton:

Also had to do a bit of bashing on the passenger side gutter to get the window open, it still needs a bit more but trying to be gentle.

Both windows have a bit of swelling in the base but thankfully nothing in the rear quarter.

This is the drivers side obviously but the passenger side is the same. Very Happy.

Yeah what is it with Lina Mint cars and flares?

Mine also has the Roof Aerial like that one.

My paint job is a bit older though.

I've always been a fan of your flares Simmo, I don't usually like them on little Torries but yours look like they belong.

My boot is fixed now, ie I can open it without undoing any bolts  :D

Getting closer to rego, baby steps...still aiming for the WA Forum run in October whenever that is.

I've borrowed a steamer to remove the old tint, then its just a few little bits to finish her off.

I've also ordered a can of Lina Mint paint to do some touch up work.

I've never taken a car over the pits so not really sure what they will look for, but trying to cover off all of the obvious stuff at least.

Ok, cheers mate, that sort of stuff seems to be all good.

I should probably get my wipers and squirty bottle working too.

yep that will help :)
make sure any wiring is secure and tucked away
check your suspension too
as much as i hate pedders for 14 bucks (if they still do it)
thier suspension test is a good deal to give you an idea of what's wrong
generally if it looks clean has good tyres and your respectful to them they let you off for "minor" things

Removed tint off all but the passenger side front window and rear window over the weekend.

A pain in the butt job but made easier by using a fabric steamer I picked up from Red Dot for $30.

The trick is to get the glass hot so that as you start to peel the glue can't hang on.

I ended up having to still scrape most of it off with a razor blade but it is so much easier when the tint is hot and squishy.

After I got most of it off, I used some metho to remove the rest of the glue and any bits of tint i missed and they came up mint.

Hard to see but this is with the tint

And this one is after removal.

Much cleaner look and will make the Pit inspection guy happier.

I don't dislike the tint and may get it redone at some point, but it was rooted.

The tint is almost gone.

I went to do the passenger door window and couldn't get my razor blade under the tint.

Took me a while to realise that most of it was already off so that just needs a tidy up.

Removed the majority from the back window, prick of a job but not as hard as I thought it would be, actually got some good heat into it and got some nice big chunks off.

Not a great pic but you can see the difference between with and without tint.

You know when sometimes you say something and later you realize you were a bit wrong?

OMFG, just spent over 2 hours finishing off the back window.

So hard to get to the corners and the bottom, and some of the glue just didn't want to come off.

It is still not 100% but it will do for now, certainly looks better than the previous pic.

Still got heaps of stuff to do on it, but I can see progress now and I have it all mapped out in my head.

Just need more hours in the day.

I bought my first XU1 today.

Its a blue one, and it starts first time every time, gets a bit hot though.

Attached File  IMG_0833 (Medium).JPG   163.96K   1 downloads

I've cracked the sh!ts with the car for now.

Tried to change the ignition barrel but can't get the steering wheel off, but I think I got the upper bearing out while the steering wheel was still attached!!

(It has an LJ interior including steering column)

So I gave up on that and tried to straighten out the gutter at the rear because it makes it impossible to open the back window.

That is why I bought the heat gun, the metal is so cold I can't get it to budge at all.

All I did was take more paint off and crack a bit more.

But that's ok, I bought a tin of Lina Mint paint so I can touch up areas like that.

Only its the wrong colour isn't it?

Lucky i tested it on a spare door first.

I don't think the paint is the wrong colour, it looks like I remember Lina Mint, I think the paint on my car is a bit old and faded

Just over it right now

Got my steering wheel off, thanks for the tip Quag.

Swapped out the ignition barrel.

Now I have no dash lights.

Doh...

Looks like I'll get some more practice with the rubber mallet.

And this time I'll check before I put everything back together lol..

Also the paint looks a lot more like the colour of my car after it has dried so it should be ok for a few little touch up bits that are needed.
