I came across an LX (very early build with short shifter) SLR 3300 that's been in storage 20 years. It has a little surface rust and a bit of the clear coat coming off and the drivers seat has a rip n it. The brakes have had a complete overhaul including rebuilding master cylinder, calipers and replaced hoses. It has also had a new exhaust. My biggest problem is where do I go from hear. I've always wanted an slr5000 repo but this car may be to good to modify it. Is this car too rare to become a repo? Let me know what you think.

its your car do what you want... an original slr3300 may be rare, but not necessarily desirable ?

Nothing wrong with a 3300,set up right you will frighten some of the 5000's.

Drove one once that was set up with webers and other simple stuff, very responsive, but it is yours so you have the choice

of what to do with it.Nice find.

There getting real rare because every frOckwit 5000's them.

If you want a v8 one sell it and buy something already bastardised.

I would dearly love a slr 3300.

Cheers.

Restore it as it should be. People dream about finding a car that has significant numbers and that has not been molested for there entire lives and very few actually find one. So restore it or sell it to fund what you want. A LX SLR is a very nice car in my opinion. I have no idea what Skapinad is on about a 3300 is a very desireabe car, cheers Aaron.

Hi Josh,

Give the Engine a work out and it will be as good as a 5000 and your engine number will stay the same. Dave I

p.s. a fast car is worth more

p.p.s. RED Sixes are the best anyway

Choice is yours Josh, do you want it to drive (toy) or to sit and look at (investment).

Everything can be returned to original with the time and know how and a good welder.

It's your car ............ it's your call!

What you have is a 'stand out' vehicle. As mentioned, there aren't too many left because everybody filled the engine bays with V8s & bolted on flares. As a result, stock examples are few on the ground.

There was a stock 6cyl SL/R at T-fest last year which drew more attention than the other 200 flared & war painted V8 versions! Full credit to the owner, it was very nice! :)

If you had brock's winning car and you asked me is it too rare to turn into a road car then I would say yes, but a run of the mill car needs what ever you think it needs doing to it.

I mean anyway, if you are converting a 3300 to a 5000 then all that is is a change of motor/box etc and some decals and badges, not much you could not change back in a long weekend.

Restore it to look like an original SL/R, and simply put a 308, M21 or trimatic, V8 banjo centre and tailshaft. Keep the driveline aside. No harm done. A 6cyl SL/R is like a 6cyl Sandman, not popular in the day and not as wanted today as a 308 car.

No point in beating around the bush.

Convert it into a UC Starfire Hatchback.

What sort of mods are you looking at, if you just want 5000 replica then like said go for it, it's only an engine and some paint.

What paint, SL/R 3300 and 5000 have the same paint, same interior etc etc, just different badging.

Another way of looking at it, if you sell it you might not be too far off buying a 253 flared replica done?

Does the OP want a replica L34/A9X or a replica SLR 5000?

Not true.     LX 5000's  had black bonnet and the large stencilling and larger black ban - low down rapping all the way around

Just modify it, i certainly would. It's your car, do what you want. Pull the 6 out and put it in the corner of your shed, just incase you decide to turn it back to stock. Having said that, if i modified a car that was getting rare, i'd only do things that could be turned back to stock easily, so flares would be a definite no no for me (well, they would be on any Torana i built as they're not my thing). This is why i used a UC hatch to go to town on, it's just a nothing model.

First buy the car, then decide.

You can't go wrong owning an SL/R

Just leave it as a slr 3300 like most people have said there would be less of them then 5000
but if i was to find something like that i would slap a 350 chev in it painted to my own colour scheme
bomber would not be happy
