i would keep it original and enjoy the car for its era and what it is. Not many going around - and would certainly hold value better being original.

If it was me I would leave it original maybe do a v8 conversion.. But I would still leave the body original. At the end of the day your car you do what you want.

I agree, restore it to original body scheme and interior, keep the engine and drivetrain if you're going to V8 it.

my 2c worth.......................................................................................its your car.....

But since you did ask..........

there are any number of modified SLRs running around....there aren't many that are totally orig.

( have you seen how much interest Hanra's Black SLR has generated ?)

Assuming yours is fully original..( pics would be great) ..then I'd be trying to save it.

If you want a project...then this car probably isn't the best one for it....you said it yourself .... "SLR 3300 that's been in storage 20 years".

Think 'Barn Find",.......and how much that term draws peoples attention these days.

Maybe buy it and ponder your plans for a while...and just enjoy it in the meantime.........p.s.  did I say pics would be good?

I came across an LX (very early build with short shifter) SLR 3300 that's been in storage 20 years. It has a little surface rust and a bit of the clear coat coming off and the drivers seat has a rip n it. The brakes have had a complete overhaul including rebuilding master cylinder, calipers and replaced hoses. It has also had a new exhaust. My biggest problem is where do I go from hear. I've always wanted an slr5000 repo but this car may be to good to modify it. Is this car too rare to become a repo? Let me know what you think.

Josh

Ask a million people for advice and get a million different answers

What is the asking price on this little gem :dontknow: and what colour is it :dontknow:

No.1 Grab it Vedddddy quickly as the saying goes, there are only two people, the quick and the oh shit I should have bought it

No.2 Get it, sit on it for a little while till you decide what YOU want to do with it

No.3 If you decide to keep it original then how far do you go in keeping it original ie Tidy it up with a clean, polish and mechanical check or go the full hog with a complete resto with paint, interior etc but once you have resprayed etc then it isn't original anymore, it then becomes restored genuine SL/R 3300

No.4 Do your replica SL/R5000 project on it if that is what YOU want.

This is my 2 bobs worth and is what I have done with my SS Hachback and my wife's Sunbudgie Hatchback, if a Torana is a GTR/XU-1/SL/R/L34/SS/A9X leave the fur king thing alone.

If it is an S/SL/TA/Sunbudgie/UC then modify the crap out of it :stirpot:

BUT as most have eluded to, it is your car and what ever you want to do with it, do it.

I'd wish that I had left the original 253 in mine but I didn't have the foresight.

I can't get the motor back, what's done is done and I'm just as happy with a 308 in it.

To me a clean unflared tidy LH/LX is every bit as cool as the full on Flare kit treatment. I would definatly be keeping the driveline weather it is in the car or not as the driveline is much easier to bolt back in than to weld up flare holes and repaint. I would want to be finding a nice balence between enjoyment and later profits if you should chose to sell it and leaving the body stock would be in my mind the best way to do that. By all means slap a v8 in it if thats what spins your wheels but keep the stock driveline under the bench in the shed and you will sell for the most later down the road.

P.S. A hot 6 at full noise sounds everybit as cool as a v8

I recall a friend had a 6 cyl. LX with triple carbs, that thing was a screamer, blew the doors off many V8's back in the day.

Would be nice to have the 253 for Tracie's car but it was lunched many years before we bought it, the body kit, i assume was fitted when the first owner had it.

Reading this makes me feel even better that I am going to do a stock build on my car.

Keep it original mate, it sounds like a great find.

I remember looking for a Torrie for my mate years ago, we saw an LX hatch in a car yard in Perth, opened the bonnet and walked away laughing after we saw the 'six' in it. Such dickheads we were. That thing was very nice and would be worth the mint right now.

He ended up buying a POS with an 8 in it and flares and lots of bog. Hey even I saw this to be a mistake straight up but I couldn't stop him.

Yes, they aren't that rare.

I have an L32 (253 engine) SL/R LX, not sure of the numbers that were made but they don't fetch as much as a 5000.

My SL/R 3300 was a bit of a barn find as well, now it has a full cage and flares, V8 etc. I have no intention of selling this car ever so I did what I wanted. But at the end of the day if someone really wanted to resto it it can all be removed. After all, it's only metal, holes can be welded, cages can be removed and engines can be changed.

No point driving a car your not happy with
