Get out of my way I am coming past or I will knock you off the bloody track (attitude of Gricey). He was definitely in the mix in practice but so was Morris. I don't remember anyone except Grice and Morris that looked slightly threatening to Brock. After the Sandown 500 1/2 finish MHDT looked pretty good on the Bridgestones.

It was the well documented UC 202 turbo dealer fitted package retro fitted to an LX.
Too quick and they wouldn't let it race.

It was the Janson/Perkins car
Lemans shell
Don't remember them being fast in practice. Just had a look at the records and they where 17th on the grid. But the captain and the ever consistent Perkins certainly had a good race finishing a few laps ahead of Radburn.
Interesting if in fact Red is saying its them that he is referring to.

No it wasn't Janson.
Both Morris and Grice had fingers pointed at them in 79. Anyone who has seen the Morris car will know why. But it wasn't Bob having the finger pointed at him at Bathurst, and he wasn't the one with the interesting decal on the back bumper.

So now I have to find photo's of rear bumpers.
Talk about a tease.
So its not Grice or Morris (or Janson)?
Guess I have to pull out the VHS and watch the full lead up commentary.
I am starting an L34 vs A9X thread to let off some frustration on taxi drivers...... LOL
Come on mate, a Bog stock off the showroom floor L34 was apparently good for 350HP and easily reved to 7000, but only if you had the optional 10000RPM tacho
What about the optional 300kph speedo?
Those MHDT boys should have just left them standard and saved themselves a fortune.

268.8 kph would be right, I thought it was 278 kph or 268 kph from what I remember from the 1979 Bathurst race call on TV

Commentator claims approaching 165mph for Grice around 1:20 here, during the race

I never said it wasn't Grice

165 mph = 265.542 kph for the Gricey A9X Beast, so Brocky doing 268 kph would be spot on and in that time frame they used speed guns at the end of conrod straight, love how they are still talking in MPH the commentators lol

Unreal Red and I all ways thought Brocky's 05 HDT A9X was the fastest A9X at the 1979 Bathurst weekend

I said fastest down Conrod in practice, I didn't say fastest lap times or fastest in the race.
Grice was pulled up after it was suspected he was getting a little...assistance. It's not a well known fact.

Yeah well you get that when you cheat
I believe he was accused again in 82 of the same thing

I was there as a 17 year old so maybe have a distant residual memory of it.
There are some shots of the back of the car here but very blurry:

one of the videos ive got shows Grice passing Brock down Conrod..not drafting either just cruised up an boom straight past early in the '79 race!
i reckon any faster than 265 klicks an the doors would fall off..well not fall off really but.. mine flap in the wind at 210 kph!!!
its a well known fact ..i know another bloke who used to have a v8 hatch said he could "stick his fingers in between the window frame an body"

I think you're thinking of the 77 race. Brock was never passed in 79.
Early hatch shells did that, not the A9X shells

mine flap in the wind at 210 kph!!!
Nothing that a knee in the door and two hands on the window frame can't help solve.

The 1976 Hatch Shells did that, The 'H' and the HDT boys found that problem on his Black 1976 SS Hatch and Harry would of told GMH, my 1977 SS L31 Hatch never did it, it was a 9/1977 built one so by 1977 the problem was fixed as Red said with the A9X

What was the fix?

I guess bracing on the door hinges I would think
or stronger door hinges, or Red might know
