Hey guys, looking at buying a nice torana, good price, good engine, good body work etc.
The car is in VIC, the only problem is it says the rego is non transferable (club rego), what does this mean exactly?
Cheers

The registration can't be transferred, the car's ownership can still be transferred. Just as an unregistered vehicle. You will need to register it, whether you put it on a Club Permit or Full Registration - it doesn't matter.

Ok so if I buy it and bring it to NSW I cancel the club rego, get rwc and all that that and go get it regod like a normal car?

Once you bring it to NSW the interstate rego becomes invalid anyway right?
If you get a NSW pink slip you can get club rego but you have to be a member of a club and it has to comply to their conditions, if it's not highly modified you shouldn't have a problem with most clubs.
Otherwise you get a blue slip and rego. it as usual, you may need an engineer's certificate if your mechanic suspects it's modified.

Alright Cheers Stephen, yeah it's modified a lot i'm surprised any club would let it in, I want normal rego anyways.

That is why club rego is good, lets you have the modifications...
Know someone who had club rego on a blown big block Nova..along with a big assort of other stuff getting around, without the dramas of trying to get it all passed on full rego (and a heap cheaper too for club reg)

That depends on the club, according to NSW rules
'Vehicles must be as close to original condition as possible, with NO alterations except for safety features.'
http://www.rta.nsw.g...lubs_policy.pdf
I tried getting club rego for the Mustang and got rejected for 17” wheels. Was told my model came out with 15” max. they could allow perhaps 16” but 17’s were too noticeable. The argument was that say, someone from the Morris Minor club saw my car and reported it the club could lose their rego. privileges from the RTA.
Some other clubs will allow modifications so shop around.

This is also a case of 'depends on where you go'.
Some mechanics will let certain mods slide, others will want an engineer to inspect it and even different engineers will give you differing opinions.

Suppose it does depend on the area, and the club itself too...
I know a few guys who have cars on club rego ,and they have a tad bit of mods.

Absolutely, I can't see how any hot rod is close to stock as possible yet some are on club rego.

arn"t "hot rods" a class of thier own?
different rules for them i think
You may be correct, I know for full rego, an engineer has to pass them at certain steps during the build, not sure how it works for 'historic' rego. though I'm sure I've seen some wildly modded cars in the same hot rod clubs.

But the mods on this include engine swap, dual 3'' exhaust, bug catcher out the bonnet, 9'' diff, etc
I don't really wont club rego though because you can't just go for a cruise into town whenever you wan't, and I wont be going to that many shows and things and club rego would limit to that.

In QLD you can have as many mods as you wish on club rego so long as they all conform. Same rego/mod plating/engineering situation for full rego or club rego.
Also, in regards to hot rods, in QLD its the exact same process for club rego or full rego, but ones mod code LH9 the other is LH10.

If we get it I will put picks up, there is a few we are looking at at the moment, btw I am only 15 so it's dad buying the car not me, but while he is away at work he wanted me to look around. He has wanted one for awhile as he had a genuine A9X when he was younger has loved them since but he unfortunately got rid of it when I was born, but two of the ones we are looking at are 350 chevs to 383's, and the other 3 are strong 308's we are willing to spend up to 30k.

I might just do that

Just wondering, if you buy interstate, do you tell the PO that you're going to register interstate?
They could then get reimbursed for the unspent rego once you cross the border.
How does it work exactly once you cross the border, can you drive around on leftover interstate rego from the PO?
