i dont really know any of the guys driving but i doubt the fella driving the r32 is of the same calibre as Jim Richards is, Im sure if Jim was driving on the day not many would have come close, not taking anything away from the current driver as he seemed to be pedaling the car quite well but im sure Jim drove it alot harder seeing though he wasnt really trying to preserve it , Just my opinion
edit
Also i know smooth is fast but the green mustang was coming out of turn 2 sideways most of the time on the day cause he was on it so hard
Yeah all good, but what I was referring to was lakeside recently, Jim was in his 1990 championship winning HR31 skyline, Bill in the Stang giving it everything. At worst Bill was keeping up with Jim.. Mick Webb quite obviously knows his shit with windsors! I'm not saying they are cheating, just that time has been kind to it. Another example is Mark Taylor's VL, they came after him recently when his performance improved, reason being that he had Neil Burns build him a really good (sealed of course) engine, 438hp on the engine dyno, now his car likely has a lot more hp than back in the day, is that classed as cheating just because the current owner wants to get the best he can from it?
That's the thing with group A&C, as Craig A said, it can't really be indicative of what it was like back in the day due to wildly varying driver ability & keen-ness to push hard, plus time has been kinder to some cars.
The Starion which everyone lives to hate for example, Craig N has put a lot of effort into getting the suspension setup right in it, a couple of years ago he also had the murphy brothers approach him, now they are the guys who built the cars for Bartlett & the aussie factory team back in the day. We have been feeding them info about settings & tyre pressures, temps across the tyre etc constantly, & they have given us advice, which has been gold. That car now is pretty much the best handling car in the field.
One example is PI in 2012, one of the final changes they suggested after practice was to raise the rear ride height 10mm. Result: 2 seconds a lap improvement! We couldnt believe it! Such a minor change made a massive difference to the car. But these guys were in the thick of it back in the day. They know all the tricks. Now who knows what spring rates & shock settings the xerox car ran back in the day, all we know is that it was up to shit when Craig bought it, & now it's spot on, on a handling circuit it's a front runner. On a track with a long enough straight though, the lack of hp means the others still blow past him...
Sorry for the thread derailment, if anyone's annoyed I apologise for my part.. Lots of good discussion though!

Yeah people think we are bullshitting when we tell them that, but it happened. They are a semi trailing arm IRS design so little setup changes can make big differences..
