The funny thing is, and i dont know how accurate this is, but SM said that the X-member and sump didnt need modifying... the engine mounts lined up... Which means that it was almost MADE to fit a Ford engine bay...

I'll add to my remark and say it also looks a great car... maybe he loves the look of a HO but is a closet GM freak... and you cant tell me all you holden freaks here wouldn't love an XY... I think Mondie has the best of both worlds.

Long time ago a Ford dealer who raced a boat was asked why he had a 327 chev
in his boat and not a Ford motor. He said he had a choice, support the Co. or win the races.
He was smart and won often

says it all in the Street machine article. The bloke just wanted a cheap, reasonably efficient motor for his car and in terms of bang for buck the ls1 was the way to go. seems like a smart idea but you can bet there has been as much row about this form die-hard ford fans as there was from all of us about that ford motor in the XU-1. personally i dont mind the old falcons, and this bloke seems like he figured it out all on a budget, not on any allegiance to brand. not my type of guy really.
CHEERS Chris.

very nice gen 3 and has been setup very smartly as shes doesnt need any sump mods or firewall mods to fit it in if ford had of had brians when making these cars and to go for the 350 maybe they would have sold! :P

See most people dont know what an LS1 looks like when all that plastic shit is taken off!!

I was going to say the strut towers make it a ford.. the shaker makes it a ford.. and thats defintiely an LS1 stuck in there!

Call it Chevy under shit?

But no seriously... good on the bloke.. its unique and he did it for a reason!

Cheers!

Dude what sort of drugs are you sniffing? lol lol

XY GT is one of fords most prized cars.. They are LEGEND and an awsome car, and dont worry they didnt have any issues selling them..

Last but not least why would FORD or any other Company for that Matter use a motor from their Biggest rival company.. Fukn plain stupid lol

I wonder what response that car got from the Ford fraternity???

Cripes!!! Imagine if someone stuck a 351 in an A9X!!

The LS1 is probably half the weight of the Clevo.

Moffat wanted a Clevo in his Mustang for more power but the extra weight in the front would have killed the cars handling.

But that thing wouldn't be a GT or anything too exciting, probably just a base model falcon.

Its a replica. But still, what would we think if someone bolted an XR6T donk in an LJ... or a BOSS 290 in an LX?

um yeah thats different :tease:

the poor ls1 being surrounded by all that ford stuff

i spose at least the bloke had the balls to actually use an engine that is cheap and easily available, even if it is made by the rival company

XR6T Donk in a bloody LJ!? They would be my idol!

Undoubtably one of the best motors ever produced in Australia, hypothetically installed in undoubtably one of the best vehicles ever produced in Australia, hell yeah!

I don't care what bloody badge it has on it, if you do not like the XR6T motor, you seriously need to reconsider your life values.

so are you guys saying that if it was humanly possible you wouldnt like it if someone put a 289 (or similair ford motor) in to an lj/lc. going for the v8 sound/ look power, but using somthing out of the norm.

Anyone know where I can get a 250 cross flow for my XU-1, Im sick of being liked.

It says in the SM article that he hasnt been in any fist fights yet, I bet that will change now that the yobs understand whats in there.

Cheers

heath, the easiest way to tell that is a LS1/2 is by looking where the rocker covers are. I picked it almost straight away!

The gen 3 (also reffered to as the ls1) will be the next best engine in years to come when it becomes affordable. Heath the main difference from the head design in the gen to the older small blocks is how the old small blocks have exhaust ports in the centre close together and the gen 3s are all spaced evenly apart. Another way is how on the rocker covers they have single coil packs for each cylinder. with roller rockers and lifters and fuel injection it really makes them a screamer of an engine performance wise they are great as we have a gen3 and its smoked off those so called 290kw ford v8s

but i must admit the 65 chevrolet we have is truely a performance beast as it will leave an ls1 for dead

cheers chevy

i was giving a few of my mates who are hardcore ford fans a hard time about it last night over a few beers, far out it was funny, jeez they were pi^$ed off

i could nt stop laughing :spoton:

one of my mates reckoned he was going to write a letter to street machine and he would write: "you guys put street fords out and street commodores, so whats is street machine? a bit of this and a bit of that?"
he was quite blind at the time too :spoton:
