Very Nice Jonesy,

The Piston Ring height looks about 1/4 inch and the Manifold is longer. Dave I

Im unsure of the wrist pin length, but its a pretty light combo.

Piston weight was 437g, but has since had .022'" taken off each crown so will be a little lighter.

The BMW rods were machined down to 479g a piece making a total of less than 916g.

It looks like this now...so shouldnt be too far away.

Meaty conrods & a bit of extra clearance on the girdle.

What size is the fitting you've got in where the oil pressure sender was?

Cheers.

It's 1/2" npt into -10 for the oil feed. Probably overkill but...

Lookin good Jonesy. You should do a build thread for the whole car. The rest of the car is as impressive. Love that EH.

Oh shucks mic, your making me blush!
Just checked valve clearances last night & have to take the bore notches out some more...
Had Rob (stock lc) come round to check it all out aswell, threw his 2 cents in & gave it the thumbs up so it's full steam ahead.

It will breath best if u make the intake bore relief as wide and deep as you dare .Use the head gasket as the template and go about .040" above where the top ring would be and blend all edges to avoid hot spots. The increase in dynamic compression will far outweigh the loss in static compression .Done right its worth 10-20 hp at the wheels.

Wow, great info. I just came from the shed after having taken more from the bore with the die grinder. Went pretty well into the top edge so it's now looking like a shelf at the moment.
Are there any good pics of what a good bore relief should look like out there??

That's interesting, valve reliefs show very little gain on the flowbench.

It should look like the inside of a teaspoon but a bit flatter  ,or just angle down with the die grinder from the template scribed at the top down to a line scribed in the bore .Best to practice on another block with a 20mm stone bit . Sorry mate i havn't got any pix .

Yeah no probs, is there a set clearance I should be looking for here? I've got more than enough piston/valve clearance but it's still pretty tight on the bore.

Your piston's look like they have the top ring some 50 thou higher than most, be careful here.
I have run 40" clearance to the bore without any contact,  but more clearance is always better.
It's only going to touch the bore if you're 'pole vaulting' the valve's

Also, if you are measuring clearance by checking the height the valve drop's to, don't forget to add in the lash, you may have 20 thou more clearance than you think you do

Best to aim for abour .050" clearance between valve and piston and block .If you put some plasticene in there and turn the engine over with all clearances set .Then slice the plasticene and measure the clearance .

Thanks guys, was going to set it up again with zero clearance at the rockers (instead of the .026 needed) just to eliminate it. I'm setting it all up now with a 1.0mm acl head gasket instead of the 1.2mm mls so I'll have a little bit extra, albeit .007", at final assembly.

I've run Valve to Block of a frag over 40 thou before with no issues.

That engine goes back a few years now, but if I recall correctly Smokey Yunick must have done a bit of research on this and covers it in one of his books which I looked up at the time.  Don't quote me on it, but I think he stated a min. of 30 thou.  I can check if you like.  Whilst a bit dated, I can't see why the info wouldn't be relevant.

Ok now you have .030,.040 and .050 valve to block clearance ,the choice is yours .The more confidence you have, the tighter clearance you can use .
