guide plates aftermarket?
ljzedded 041.jpg
Yes and so are the screw in rocker studs.
Your cylinder head came ex factory with non adjustable rocker gear.

thanks dave, didnt believe it at first, even when gonad and bomber said,
thought they were pullin me leg
what price should i put on it roughly, the block 186p so im guessing hk or hg?
Posted 01 November 2013 - 06:06 AM
starting price of 1200 bills then it comes down to the bidders [how many you get] that will tell how much you will get for it.
the head is not a YT,,, im not sure in what order they run but the YT went to stage 5
stage 1 bigger ports
stage 2 double springs
stage 3 YT inlet valves
stage 4 YT exhust valves
stage 5 YT roller rockers or blue printed
in me saying this im not a machanic,,, and could be wrong
cheers gong

Delete my comment 'Your cylinder head came ex factory with non adjustable rocker gear'.
Just realised the guide plates are on the XU1 cylinder head. I thought the question was being asked about a different head.

thanks guys, you'sare walkin encyclopiedias on toranas
i had a few torana guys look at it ages ago
couldnt sell it for 350 bucks, that was complete motor,
guess im kind of lucky i still got it,i can see why valuable
things get chucked out,

The guide plate is for heads with larger pushrod holes , or holes enlarged to allow oil to drain quicker .
Posted 01 November 2013 - 11:36 AM
i thought the guide plates were used to keep the pushrods in place under extreme loads, learning something new everyday,
.heres a question how many of these heads made in 71
Posted 01 November 2013 - 04:24 PM
There is a noticeable difference between stage 2 and 3 inlet ports gong.
I have had both.
I thought stage 1 was just a recondition?
To long ago and years before i was born so i could also be very wrong.
Cheers.
i have a few YT heads down the shed mate,,, but i know fxxk all about the mechanic side of cars
i will get some pics of the stage 5 YT head i have and post up.
cheers gong

I thought the threes only had the inlet ported and , and the fives was both inlet and exhaust ported .
Posted 01 November 2013 - 05:20 PM
there is a correction guys,i looked at it in not very good light the 9 was an 8 so its a281,looks like yours gong before yella terra got there hands on it,or someone went to town on it,i did have a red stage 2hc but it was red, thought it was road racer, the inlets, the exhaust was like stock,no tella terra on valves,my inlets had the posts,i cant believe the size of them exhaust ports ,thats some serious cam it that donk, jesus gong looks like tou got em all ,you guts lol

THat head collection looks like mine haha.
First one you pictured (the high comp one) doesnt look like YT to me, looks like one of the bodgy home made 12 port conversions with a port divider i mentioned earlyer, does it go all the way or is it just what you can see in the picks? Any picks of the combustion chamber, YT used to drop nice high comp heads in the mill and machine a ugly great square in the chamber to drop the compression so any wanker could bolt it to there engine.
Second one (I assume there was only picks of two heads) looks like your run of the mill stage 3 to me. Same as the 2 i have handy.
Cheers.

yep thats what mine had bomber, that was stage two,the other pics is what mine looked like just with the posts in inlet and the port floor ported.that square cut out of chamber gave them more mid range, also more fuel air.does that sound right to you bomber,i never took out a valve to see whether the bowl had any work done to improve better atomisation.
Posted 01 November 2013 - 10:57 PM
Gong that first head you put pics up of is a hogged out homejob by looks of it most likely pig of a thing to put on an engine.
Amazing to see different styles of work & ideas put into these heads lol.
madtor..best bet is cash in while you can get decent coin for it to inject back into the build.Same thing with selling mine when found out I had an xu1 head years ago when people were spending decent money for parts although sopmetimes think I should've have kept it.

The squared out chamber did frOck all for any range. THat is propaganda and bullshit. It was purely to drop the CR on heads designed for smaller capacity engines (smaller capacity = less chamber volume required for same CR) so they could be run on any 202 bottom end either something in a car or one put together by any dickhead who knows frOck all about shit.
THe heads were made for the mass market not for the true enthusiast.
During this process Dave Bennet destroyed many, many valuable high comp heads.
He also ran a highly successfully business....Just goes to show that enthusiast products are not viable.
Cheers.

Posted 02 November 2013 - 05:34 AM
thanks for the info fellars as said i know sweet fxxk all about them,,, i have never put the xu1 head on my car for the reason of them big ports, but i do have an other one with the same numbers on there,,, the second head i put up dj of what i was told when i got it was a stage 5,,,, hehahe ripped again'
that first head as no marking that say YT i only put that one up so the OP could see the numbers,,, i will put that on ebay and see what i can get for it.
