Ive always done it starting off with revs just high enough than what breaks traction then simply slipped the clutch just enough for car not to spin. Then if that went well raise revs more again on next run.

Not the nicest way but effective for a quick launch when traction is bad or breaking shit is a problem.

Would not do it on a car that went to track much as would eat a clutch within a few meets lol.

118 is enough for low 11's with an auto + really good launch.

Practice getting better start that 11.9 will come dude, wouldn't bother with gears yet untill you get launch down.Rather than pay for 90/10's or whatever track down/borrow some old factory 6cyl shocks etc

Thanks guys, I have adjustable coil overs on the rear and softened them up so I could feel the car squat through every gear change.

Will tyre diameter ply a part? If I went up an inch and a half in diameter would that help at all?

It can if you are not adding extra weight Grant,

You want to have an advantage, without adding a disadvantage ( rotating weight ).

Likewise, a lighter set of Rear Wheels would also help at the current diametre.

must be other ways to test

You don't want the car to squat in the rear, this helps the tyres lose traction.

Dont use low profile tyres this is where you are getting some of your wheel spin.you need a bit of flex in your side wall of your tyres.go to a larger profile.Arse down nose up.Maybe 235/60/15 or 235/65/15 in either a slick or a drag radial.

Tallest tyre that fits without rubbing obviously helps especially if it has larfer sidewall.

Rear end squatting down hard not the best way to launch... it's ok if bum tucks a little. You want it to look like it copped a boot up the arse lol.

Keep it simple, just experiment with launches & most of all have fun.

This might give some people a bit more info.

The first race was a great race. Whilst I was told to delete it I thought it was only fair to put it up lol.

Heres the 2nd race. You can here my son still badgering me about who won. Its great having a boy who is passionate about car racing. On the other hand my other son was hugging me anytime a car done a burnout at the line lol. Paybacks always a bitch haha.

Cool vids, love the Adams Family race too, haha.

How did your 60 foot times go Grant? Still sitting around the 2.1 or 2.0 mark?

118mph is massive. I can see why you're frustrated, it's all in getting off the line to get that ellusive 11! The joy of manuals :)

Judging by the amount of wheel spin that I can hear, I wouldn't be too worried. Maybe play with some tyre pressures.

There is another thing you could do grant that you could try,was looking through a mag yonks ago and this fella had a brown hatch

some of you might remember it,with the original arm setup in the rear,to avoid the car squatting,he redrilled the top arm bracket

to floor an inch down from existing hole and improved his time ,i dont think he strengthened the area but i would for safety's sake

is just a thought id put it out there Grant as the mod would cost stuff all to do

cheers Maz

No worries guys. I am going to start looking out for some wide stockies in HQ pattern so I can throw some et streets on them and just chuck them on when we go. Not a big fan of pulling a tandem all the way up there.

Will still be quite a few months away I think. As for my voice`well at least its original I guess haha.

Thanks Wayne, although I did say to delete the first one when I lost!! Hahahaha

If I don't want the back to squat, should I stiffen the shocks? This will stop the squat, but I thought that would increase the wheel spin?

I will probably try a 245/60/15 next up. They measure up just on 27 inches which is about the best I will fit. As Darren saw, 245 on an 8inch rim just fits, and I mean just!!

Your right Brett, it's frustrating. If this was the best the car could go, at it's full pertential, I would be wrapped. Knowing it can go better, I really want to!
Arh the joys.

You actually want the car to lift in the rear, which is trying to push the tyre into the track, when it squats it's lifting the tyre of the track, so stiffening the rear a little should help.

With slicks you would probably run 11.90-12.0 with that mph.

Hi grant,12's i would say which is quick for a genuine street car, it's all about the reaction time, with traction, be surprised., best of luck mate enjoy...

Thanks again guys.
Warren I actually believe you when you say that 11:9-12 is about as quick as it will go in the current set up. The low 11's I have been told could well be out of reach. I will have a go with some taler tyres then call it a day. That is where I will be content and watch others (a certain nameless Alto Grey sedan) try and better their times. I can now see how the bug can grasp you and it become a major money pit going forward.

Thanks for the pointers guys :)

Good read guys. Apparently you can fit your family in one of these things. Wouldnt mind hiring one when I take the family over to the states, would be a nice machine to cruise around in.

Note it says it ran 0.4 quicker with the drag radials.

I gained .15 with drag radials. Clearly I need more HP!

What tyres and pressure are you running? for comparison my LH(308 trimatic) does 11.84@117mph with a 1.8 60 foot from the videos i can see it bags the tyres when you launch if you can get it to hook up off the line should drop into the 11's

Had Hoosier drag radials on it. Started with 20 psi and came back in with 22, so I let them back down to 20 again.
I did try no spin off the line taking off a lot more gentile on the gas, but still ran 12:57@115mph. They are only 245/50/15's so I'm hoping a taller tyre like a 235/60 or 245/60 will help a bit.
How low can I let the pressures down?
