Thanks mate i apprieciate that. What I have done is bought a cheapish set of 308 extractors $42. These would not be a direct fit obviously but i have the LS1 extractors which came with the Commo so my plan is (If it works) to use LS1 extractor head flange and weld on the 308 extractors where the primaries need to be moved to suit the exhaust port locations. 308 head flange will be chopped off of course.

I dont think I mentioned i wont be going turbo as it wouldnt be legal and I like keeping things legal for insurance reasons.

Any chance a set of cast headers would fit a bit snugger?

You might lose a bit on performance but budget wise you might gain with  just a bit of pipe bent the right way?

just thinkin :)

I thought from other sites it was the drivers side only that fowls. The biggest challenge is to get the right combination of engine mounts, sump , crossmember and clearance around the chassis and firewall, it seem everyone has had to modify something to make it fit, Im looking mid year to start mine.

Both sides fowl.

I will try to make my own extractors soon.

Everything like the motor and 4L65 is fine.

The aircon compressor had to be removed to fit the Tuff engine mount. Later I will fit a high mount aircon bracket.

The radiator is quite different, the hose fittings are different size the transmission line fittings are different so i will use the Commodore radiator and modify the radiator mountings

Tail shaft shortened by about 90mm

Mast Sump fits well too

What crossmember did you use?
Won't the hi-rise air con bracket still be on the drivers side?

I use a Kwik Performance A/C bracket on mine (Alternator too) and it's a nice and simple quality piece....if you haven't already chased up another that is.

Thanks mate i will need that. I have found a few different makes.

If you recommend that bracket then ill most probably get that one. Which one have you got?  http://www.kwikperf.com/lsx_ac.html

Did you use the old style aircon compressor? I heard not to use the modern current one??

Had a challenge fitting the surge tank. I was going to use commodore in tank pump but decided to go external and surge set up.

I use just a common style Sanden universal compressor.. (Not using the PCM to control a factory style variable one) and works great!

Just have to make sure you get the right bracket kit to suit your pulley offset. Mine is an F body (Camaro) version, they also do the Corvette, truck, etc. I think from memory the Monaro (for example) used the F body style but be best to double check of course..

I added billet idler pulleys instead of using the factory plastic ones is all..

Oh and since I had got mine, there are other companies doing braket setups too (aside from the big dollar full on billet drive setups), so can't say how all the other ones work. But at the time the Kwik one was best for me for form, fit, cost and function. :)

Mate that looks sweet

Looks like the way GMH would have done it if the LS1 existed in the 70's

So you reckon I should probably use the 2002, 2003 Monaro/GTO setup or something that suites Monaro/GTO

Thanks!

As for which setup to use...just goes off of the pulley offset. The GTO and Camaro use the same balancer spacing, Corvette is different, etc.

Assuming obviously you engine would be a Commodore one and not a Corvette one, as long as they kept the same bracket drive setup (not sure what year your's is off hand...sorry?) as the '02, etc setup you should be fine! If in doubt you can always just check your balancer and compare it to the GTO/F body ones...should be measurements and pics floating around online or I could probably check a measurement real quick on mine too.

Thanks!

Ok....just went out and measured it up... from the front face of the balancer to the flat spot just at the oil pan area basically...the 2 yellow arrows in the pic is about 95mm (little hard to reach there to measure it, and bit tight in my shed at the moment to jack the car up and measure it easy from underneath.

Hope that helps!

Nothing too fancy. Pretty basic setup with a return-less fuel line for simplicity, and laziness as I didn't want to make up a return line (Even though the fuel does return from the regulator to the surge tank.
Also got the radiator trial fitted in
Just a shot of the beading in the middle of the aluminium plate to stiffen it. Done with the bead roller.

Thats the radiator from the Commodore Senator, decided to go this way as this radiator is pretty much off the shelf if it ever goes wrong as opposed to custom stuff. Plus all the gearbox and water hose fitting screws and plugs in no worries including the fan/shroud
