I was starting to worry about you Mat, it's been a while!

If you've bought a new steering wheel, I'd assume you bought the correct "boss kit" to match the wheel to the car(?), in which case everything you need will be included.

That old steering wheel, boss, brass ring, green wire, and whatever else will be replaced.

That green is just added on scrap piece..,it goes to 1 tab off button.

Get longer wire goes to other tab of horn button through the hole in boss kit to another clip near base of steering boss that probably has brass ring.

*Assuming nothing been messed with in steering column to horn wiring.

Check fuse not blown then hopefully it's was just extra wire it needed,

will take apart boss and try to understand what referring to, and post a pic maybe/probably

every chance "messed with"

...as i put the steering column together/in

and rob, will look for a terminal too

and dear god andrew.

you all know by now that if you are going to assume..

you are to assume the worst!  :o  :P

--------

so, not having any experience with steering wheels/boss kits..

i... figured.. it was already an after market wheel and therefore has an aftermarket kit..

and bought a wheel that said "fits the 6x70mm" bolt pattern

(which i measured mine as having)

sooooo... no boss kit bought. (yet. was intentionally trying my luck)

----------

will get the new wheel, take apart the wheel/boss and have a squizz

and.. worst comes to worst, new boss it is..and

"in which case everything you need will be included."

sounds good to me.

If wheel you bought has 6 allen keys your boss kit should be ok.

I usually use wheel brace on steering wheel nut 'cos I'm lazy & it's easiest thing to grab in garage haha

Remember that nut doesn't have to be done up so tight it strips threads...just a firm tension & don't hit yourself in the face taking it off to line it up straight.

Springs probably aren’t seated correctly in k frame.
It causes one side to sit high. Very common and easy to do

gtr, the ol' yank towards face trick. gotcha, will avoid!  :D

and daz, knew of the unseated probs, back in the day when i was researching what lowered springs look like, some threads discussed it.

MIGHT still be the cause of passenger being that 18mm higher.

...but, with my 225/60/14's... for whatever reason.. the drivers was TOO low (i felt) and the negative camber to fit/turn wheel was just too much

so... was happy to raise, as it turns out.

(as for the cause.. not seated, or bent frame...

puzzle for another day  )

To remove steering wheel boss.

Leave wheel on.

Sit in drivers seat with knees/upper legs firmly behind wheel.

Have nut undone to the top of the thread.

Left hand pulling on top of wheel and pressure from legs on bottom of wheel, hit the nut sharply with hammer and boss will come off.

The nut needs to be at the top of the thread so you dont damage the thread andit also stops the wheel hitting you in the face when it comes loose.

The spring should be a main priority. You shouldn't drive it like that.

Pop the lower balljoint and have another go.

You can put a spacer under the left hand side too after you fix it.

cheers rob, and will leave nut ON. gotcha

and mark,

frOck!

(why do people make it so hard to be "lax."

lax with the brakes, lax with the steering. i don't see the problem! ^_^

will tackle.)

well..

if ya'd asked me if had seated the pass spring properly i would of sworn YES.

despite that, when taken apart found spring was NOT seated in the "dip", but about a cm to the right of it (sitting on the "high point")

boo!!!

anyways,.. BOTH springs level and EACH with spacer now.

YAY!!!

the trick to resto'ing a torana

set a realistic budget,

and then triple it. lol

so, took apart boss, to do horn wiring

now learnt/realise that i am missing the "brass ring horn/indicator cancel " plastic piece

and

when bought steering wheel i did NOT check that my 6 screw wheel matched my boss.

wheel is vertical holes

..and boss is off centered.

(here is a pic of someone elses, from a boss kit thread)

Attached File  IMG_2778.JPG   105.39K   5 downloads

so.. am saving up for a new boss AND the brass ring plastic piece.

(new boss as one have is very aged. as opposed to buying a steering wheel with correct hole placement.. which would be slightly cheaper)

Attached File  IMG_2783.JPG   132.84K   4 downloads

and my horn/mounting bracket effort

they work perfect, and am in luck. all my wiring/relay is working all the way to the horn contact.

Attached File  IMG_2770.JPG   43.48K   3 downloads

---------

still, you know you have a good looking model of car when it still looks great!..

..even when (seemingly) broken down! lol

no tank.

up until a couple of days ago i hadn't even realised it might be a good idea to fit one.

("S" model didn't come with one.. so didn't notice was "missing")

and funny you mention it straight after fitting my horns in chosen location.

as i was thinking when i was mounting them.. "hmmm, would be a good place for a 'tube' recovery tank. and horns will kinda be in the way now"

puzzle for another day.

(??may fit the bulky stock tank in standard place)

just change the cap for now to standard .

the recovery cap that's on it is no good without a tank and will cause the radiator to lose water and overheat

Sounds good Mat. What's happening with the brakes? Spongy? Non existent?

heya laurie, it's like a vacuum leak or regulator leak. (there is no steadyness in brake pedal feel.)

had my local mechanic drop in and said that is whats causing it. a $10 part, plus an hour of labour. which is sweet!

am getting him to do it, plus ALL the brakes. decided had no interest in "trying" to do it all right and safe myself.

Hey Mat, it's been quiet around here... does that mean she's on the road and you're too busy driving it?

heya andrew! nah.. is more that the tory has been off site for last 4 weeks and so have had nothing to report!

is so wierd not being able to go outside and start a torana lol

is at a local mechanics getting the brakes fully overhauled.

and the trimatic serviced, and new engine and trans mounts.

and... been asked to go over car and re-do ANYTHING suspect.

(one thing i know of he's asked to take action on is the wiring to the battery. wants to add a better fuse setup mounted to the side of battery on engine bay.)

which also means... i drove the bloody torana for 10k's!

am NOT raving about it as was a little terrified lol

thankfully all went very well, and seemed to cruise well!!

but, loud? yup, very loud. hahaha

loved it.

one thing can add is that before i sent away i did the ol' coke bottle recovery tank addition.

well... gatorade bottle version anyways;)
