Didn't mean chop factory console..fcuk no! Especially if it's still in good condition..

Meant as in fit separate uc indicator cover over shifter then make new top section around it that will clip in original console.

Uc are like 3 sections I think???

lol wondered if meant hurt MY PRECIOUS! hahaha

didn't get the rest of console with my uc shifter puchase, and i have no clue about those consoles.

might be a needed option the way i'm going!

Yeah uc have a separate cover with selector positions that goes over shifter....it'd be enough to get you out of trouble if worried about rego inspection.

Fill crevice in console with fancy rocks 'livo polariser'

(hmmm, weren't all 308's turbo's ..??)

-------

gotta love options!! lol

No, all 308 auto Toranas were Trimatics ("TRANS M40" on the body plate)

A lot of 308 autos in the big Holdens at the same time were TH400 ("TRANS M41" on the body plate), later replaced by the TH350 in 1979

Glad to hear you got the oil pressure senders sorted out, that reading looks much more believable, I wouldn't worry about testing with a mechanical gauge now.

And all factory torries with drivers side, correct??

No again, Trimatics in earlier Toranas were Series 2 (with the right-side selector) and later models were Series 3 (with the left-side selector), To add to the confusion, the Series 1 Trimatic (Pre HQ) was also left-side selector, so they went from the left, to the right, and back to the left!

I'm just not sure when they changed over as far as Toranas are concerned, I know UC had Series 3 but I'm not sure if the last of the LX had them too?

I've read on this forum some say that the Series 3 came in with ADR27A in July 1976, that would mean that all automatic LX Toranas with "BLX" and later chassis numbers were left-side selector, but I'm not sure that's true? I have a feeling the changeover was later than that?

If anyone knows for sure I'd love to confirm?

cheers for info, that clears it up.. FOR ME!

not you. i am the last to ask for detailed info haha

hopefully someone is aware

-------------------

matched thermo sensor from gauges kit is now installed. (had to buy 2 brass reducers, a 1/2 to 1/4, and a 1/4 to 1/8th)

temp gauge read 90C... when thermo (it's sensor, set at 90C) turned on, yay!!

and at that hot temp...

oil pressure 1.6 to 3.5

bit more like what people expected, which is fooking excellent

"our" commodore, that my nov 1978 engine was used in. lol

(although oplel, the real designers of the car, never had the ball to put anything bigger than a 2.2L in it)

280px-Opel_Rekord_E2_front_20081127.jpg

seems we could of had a coupe at any time we wanted.

rightly or wrongly, am a tad surprised aren't seeing a handful of these running around with vh fronts plonked on and vc wing, with a v8 fitted, painted yellow or green, lowered with Simmons wheels

280px-Opel_Rekord_E1_hellgelb.jpg

the 2 door wagon.. didn't quite work

220px-Opel_Rekord_E_Caravan.jpg

another company used it... the Vauxhall Carlton

280px-Vauxhall_Carlton_JRHospital_croppe

frOck, did holden design any cars lol

our vn first made in 86!

280px-Opel_Omega_A_front_20090430.jpg

wrongly thought WE designed the vt, my bad

280px-Opel_Omega_front_20080118.jpg

certainly, we made them ALL better looking.

------

.........anyways, i digress

left hand selector sourced soon hopefully

Our early Commodores were all based on the Opel design but there were apparently a number of things changed to beef-up the body for Australia. They weren't just importing Opel parts and puting them together here.

Speaking of such things... there was a company called Dominion and International Automobiles (trading as D.I.A MOTOR CO, 32 Winterton Rd, CLAYTON) who were doing two door Commodore conversions called the "Adayer Sportif" but they only made a dozen of them.

They were all based on a brand new VH SL/E 4.2 litre V8 auto sedan, all black in colour and had Opel rear quarters, B-pillars and doors grafted onto them, not to mention that for some reason they decided to fit ford fairlane headlights... yuk!

From the factory they looked like this:

Townsville2_Copy.jpg

They were roughly the same price as a Group Three VH SS from HDT at the time, which may explain why they weren't a big seller, but only bring a fraction of the price of an SS nowadays, if you can find one that is.

Many have had the VH front end put back on them by now. That car above is actually tagged Adayer #11 and now looks like this:

Townsville_Adayer2.jpg

Townsville_Adayer3.jpg

Full_Size_Render.jpg

Is that sitting my driveway?

No, unfortunately not.

Do I wish it was sitting in my driveway?

Hell yeah, who wouldn't!

Anyway, sorry for getting off topic for a Torana forum but I figure it's your thread and you started it!

..and was worth it.

that black one is friggin brilliant. sinister as.

$_35.JPG

would of gone for this wing myself.

and the body kit knowing me.

subtle..?? not really.

as for that company who made them look like shit, instead of staying with the sweet as vh. some people are just retards when it comes to taste i guess.

Don't forget the Brock Monza.

Also Andrew, when you say not all 308 auto Toranas were Trimatic. Were there any other than the Wayne Negus car?

I don't really count the Wayne Negus car as a production car anyway as it could never be ordered as a RPO.

But I had to go back up and re-read my own post...

No, all 308 auto Toranas were Trimatics ("TRANS M40" on the body plate)

...and I did actually type "No [comma]" as in answering the question, not "Not" (you definitely need to proof-read your posts around here).

Maybe I should have added a carriage return instead...

No.

All 308 auto Toranas were Trimatics

have had to concentrate on other things so not much happening on project.

did find time to install spacer on drivers side, as was 18mm lower than passenger.

(springs "seemingly" bedded properly, not sure of cause.)

used a 10mm one, and raised car 17mm to almost perfectly match now.

Attached File  IMG_2673.JPG   118.85K   9 downloads

(if knew better.. would of realised could of been done WITHOUT taking off rotor)

also, remembered to put in shims finally, so have better negative camber.

also, bought a few cheap things to carry on with project till find money to pay someone to fix my brakes/calipers/lines/booster

..whatever is causing ??vacuum leak

horns

p.jpg

the SINGLE rear brake line hose

(was expecting needing 2. only now realised is not the case)

p.jpg

steering wheel (as needed a horn button anyways)

p.jpg

-------------

if anyone knows how to wire a horn button to horn, would be appreciated.

i have ONE wire inside steering wheel cavity for a horn button,

(seems to be a GROUND??)

but the steering wheel button comes with TWO possible terminals underneath?? i think.

and, so do the horns, (TWO terminals each) when "seemingly" i only have ONE dark green ?positive wire.

(which i will run to one horns POSITIVE, tap out and then run to the other horn)

imagine i just have to rig up a grounded black and hook up to neg terminals.

(figured attaching bolt would be a ground? anyways, will just use terminals.)

One of the wires from the horn button will go to ground the other will connect to the wire coming up the steering column

One wire goes through horn button to brass ring...other wire is earthed to column or boss kit then when push horn button it bridges the grounded wires beep beep.

If you have had to put a spacer under one front spring you might find it has a bent chassis rail from a nose to tail incident.

That green is just added on scrap piece..,it goes to 1 tab off button.

Get longer wire goes to other tab of horn button through the hole in boss kit to another clip near base of steering boss that probably has brass ring.

*Assuming nothing been messed with in steering column to horn wiring.

Check fuse not blown then hopefully it's was just extra wire it needed,

Have a good look down the holes. There may be a spade terminal visible in one of them.
