IMO 30k is way too much considering the car is suffering an identity crisis.

30 is not bad for a really nice replica torana in good condition. To me the tags may be from any car if they were trying to rebirth it but if he says that is the original engine for that car that cast date engine will not match a Barbados painted car. The boys have told you about most the other issues, cheers Aaron.

Not sure about the LH paint scheme, but a nice car none the less.

Exactly, it depends on how well the car presents itself and it will never be a genuine 5000. Personally I don't think it's genuine; it seems like a mish-mash of bits and pieces from both models so it's more of a tribute rather than a replica or clone. Many owners added LX parts to LH and vice versa, when something broke down or smashed, you went to the wreckers and bought what was available.

Even today there's people doing up their Toranas with the wrong paint schemes, even putting on 5000 stickers from LH as well as 5000 decal from LX. It looks all wrong but it's their car to build it as they please.

Yeah and it has me wondering whether they know it or saw it on a few other Toranas and think that's how they were. In my teen years I put an LH 5000 sticker on my spoiler, I thought they looked cool at the time and had no idea. It's been years since it peeled off and after learning the difference I decided not to replace it; a pity it left behind an imprint, lol.

A message to the OP is to go after what you want, if you like correctness make sure you learn the differences between the LH & LX. You may see 2 Toranas of similar price in similar condition but one of them may be much cheaper to restore if you want the correct look.

Thanks guys. I found my dream car on carsales.com the other day, the Mint julep LX SLR5000 replica, it was built exactly how i would have built it. It was $37k which is high for a tribute, but i ended up offering $35,500, which he declined. I ran him back after 2mins with his $37k asking price and he had sold it to any earlier interested party.... DEVISTATED is an understatement!! It was only 4 sale for 2 days.

What a low blow : (

Yeah I think so too. Have you checked any of the facebook groups?

There was a jade green A9X replica on the Gold Coast a month or so back; the guy wanted $25k and it looked flawless.

Yeah ive seen that one on Ebay. Silver is not my 1st choice in colour, and prefer an LX. Would like something with bit of engine work done and a 9 inch etc...  If it was cheap enough it would be worth getting

Still great value; paint & panel is where the money is, the 12k you save over the other one can go a long way.

Bought 1 finally! Lx Slr5000 replica that needs a good resto. Its going into the panel shop in 3 weeks for a smicko Mint julep paintjob with SLR5000 stencils. Now looking for some 10' Convo Pro wheels if anyone has some 4 sale?

Congrats Heath, hopefully there isn't too much evil hiding under the current paintwork!

Any chance of some pics? Maybe start a build thread?
