Can anybody tell me how to reply to somebody and get that box in your post that says who said it at what date and time and what they said that you want to reply too.

I was wondering whether to paint my engine bay black or body colour, the chassis number does start with a B

It definitely was body colour out of the factory.

model is LX8VC69 and Eng L20 Trans m15 and axle GV4.

LX8VC69 = LX SL Sedan

L20 = 202/3300 6-cyl engine
M15 = 3-sp all synchro manual (col shift)
GV4 = 3.36 rear axle ratio

The other info on tag reveals trim and paint options.

To get the quote boxes hit the 'Quote' bottom right corner of their post; you can then edit the quote, hit quote again in another person's post to quote 2 people or hit quote again to edit sections of one quote like I did above.

Interesting the trim is 1896-60A, paint 567-15942, body 540876M the number ending with m on the other plate is different that's weird.

I was planning to paint the engine bay in satin black which would be easier, but I am thinking body colour looks better. think I worked out the quote box.

567-15942 Contessa Gold Metallic, Exterior Code 1896

60A -  Chamois vinyl interior (plain, no insert)

The M at the end of your body number stands for Melbourne.

The first digits of your VIN tag also reveal info; my guess it starts with 8C69 followed by digits for engine, plant, body number and end in X for LX.  LH models have VIN ending in H

As for 60A interior, have also seen 60A as Chamois/Black, some discussion here:

Yes that's right the first part of the vin are 8C69LF and it ends with a x, great info thanks mate, that probably wont be a bad diff ratio for V8 aussie four speed combo.

The L is 202 the F is 1976 my guess the next letter is J for Dandenong.

Provided it's the original diff. ;)

3.08 is a common ratio for V8's with Aus 4 speeds, 3.36 will be a bit quicker on the take off.

Just curious about the 60A; provided it's original, are the lower half of your door trims and carpet black? Any pics of centre console and dash?

Yes the next letter is a j, the console that came with it looked like a floor shift one but I don't think it was original it wasn't fitted to the car, I bought the car in pieces it had been stripped down, the door trims have been painted black by somebody but they don't have carpet at the bottom, here are some pics.

Here's an LX with bench seat.

http://car-us.com/ca...n-lxtorana/4739

There definitely were column shifts with buckets too, they would've just had carpet, I can't remember any consoles without gearsticks, lol.

Would of been a good idea to of had consoles with bucket seat column shifts, plenty of storage room and could of had room for cup holders for about six beers.

I drove 3hrs west of the gold coast to look at a LX torana that was in pieces, when I checked it out the body was in great condition and was a 2 owner vehicle and had been garaged all its life. It had a been badly resprayed in single pack acrylic, but the car still even had the original battery tray that wasn't rusted out. It had to be one of the best cars for rust getting around, and it came with a V8 stripped down and was complete except there  were certain parts I think the seller forgot to throw in or he was just to lazy to search for them.

The tag on driver's side would've been body coloured; the tag on passenger side will have chassis no. which should also be stamped near the charcoal cannister.

Its a wonder it wasn't a bench seat.

What is the seating capacity?

Just wondering, I'd say a bench seat would have a seating capacity of 6.

Yes I wondered why it was gold and the rest of the car was green, the seating capacity is 5 so it was definitely buckets. I was wondering the best way to clean these tags, there pretty filthy but I don't want to stuff them, maybe a light sandblast or when I recondition carbys I soak the parts in aluminium acid and they come up like new.

Chuck the tags in a jar of thinners.
Sandblasting will root them.

and scrub the paint off with a stiff plastic brush or toothbrush.

Wire brushes, steelwool and scotchbrite will also root them.

I was speaking to a guy at Machines & Macchiatos this morning; his LX has 60A interior, he says it's all original except the inserts used to be herringbone, he had golfball inserts installed.

If you were doing an A9X replica, 60A would suit it.

Thanks mate I thought I better ask, last thing I wanted to do is stuff them up.

That interior does look good, I take it the roof lining is chamois colour since the pinch weld is, mine didn't have black carpet at the bottom of the door trims but I think that flows into the black floor carpet nicely, I think too much chamois could over power the look.
