Hi Everyone.

I have just brought a Project car.

I'm just looking for conformation on the TAGs/ chassis to confirm what I have.

Cheers.

I always thought those early style rivets were used on 74 model cars. This one seems pretty early on in the chassis number (ALH). But is a 5/75 car.

Something screwy is going on with this one. J433817 is 5-6/74. That ADR tag is 6/75 yet the chassis number prefix and ADR numbers are consistent with 5-6/74. I reckon the 6/75 is a GMH mistake.

Is it just me or is the 5 in 75 larger than the 6 and the 7?

Chassis: ALH009333M

06/75 ?

VIN: 8D69TD J433817H

Body: 433817M

I agree with the above, everything else seems to line up except for that "5" in '75, typos on plates did happen, there was an April 1968 UC Torana mentioned here a little while back.

Does the car have the original engine in it? And if so, what's the cast date?

Would there be any reason to change the date and make it a year earlier?

For instance; did they make 5000's as early as 6-74?

If not then it could be the case that the VIN and body tags are from a 5000 and they altered the ADR tag to suit.

VIN: 8D69TD J433817H

The letter D after the T says it is Model Year 1974. So the VIN tag is for a 1974 LH SL/R 5000.

Upon closer inspection the 5 in 6-75 is larger and not the same font as any of the other 5's on the compliance plate.

My best guess as it is obvious the plate has been removed and refitted is it has been altered.

Agree, the 5 is wrong. Not sure why anyone would do that.

Unfortunately it's not the original motor in the car.

Perhaps the chassis number has been welded in ?

main id tag has been tampered with,..it should of read BLH ..I'VE seen many factory errors over the years but i personally believe there a lot there than meets the eye..big rivet tags were only up to up until about the 10th month of 1974..regardless of it looking like factory rivets....i don't think this car is a factory error a bit more human intervention down somewhere down the line..

feeling a little disappointed.... if everything points to it being a 6/74 car, why would someone want to change the 4 to a 5?.

AFAIK, ALH 009333M would be correct for a 6/74 build LH Torana and 8D69TD would be correct for an LH SL/R 5000 built before the 1st September 1974.

The only thing I think that has been altered on that Compliance Plate is the 4 to a 5 on the compliance date.

This is what doesn't make sense as there's no advantage to doing it; it could just be a tag anomaly. It'd be a lot worse if it was trying to be fraudulent, i.e. if 5000's were only made in 1975 for example.

As long as the car isn't stolen and you weren't ripped off in the process; continue with your project. If you can't prove it's been tampered with, there really is not much you can do about it and you shouldn't run into problems with the law.

Paint 568 13134 is Glacier White.

Check to see if there's evidence of the original colour being white; at least that'd be a good sign.  I'd take photos of everything you uncover in your resto that points to it being original; just for your own records or to show prospective buyers.

''Peter''..

.don't feel disappointed sounds like you bought in good faith...as far as your concern it is a SLR5000 unless proved otherwise ....a lot things happen in 40 years..i would personally check rego papers to see what its been registered as...also if you could show a complete picture of the chassis number panel...the rivets have been tampered tapped about and aren't the original ones...

Thanks everyone for their input...I learnt a bit more about Tags today, so that's a plus.....also at least I didn't pay a fortune for the car as it didn't have the original motor so all ok there I guess.

As long as you're happy; that's all that matters.

It looks like a good starting point for a project.

Be sure to start a build thread with plenty of pics.

What are your plans; original, restomod, custom?

At the time of release this is what it would've looked like but in Glacier White.
