Hello all,

as promised, I have limited information about this A9X,

but a Fellow at work named Victor mentioned he bought this A9X in 1980 from City Motors in Perth,

this was a Black 2 door hatch, had 9000km on the clock,

with very wide pursuit rims and rubber on the back,

and wide but narrower ones on the front.

Victor claims this was a '408' build,

as he only owned it 3 weeks before she went over the Williams street bridge into the river.

The A9X was taken out of the salt water 3 day's later and was a write-off.

The motor was running when she drank the salt water and stuffed that up,

and the undercarriage had been ripped all along.

Apparently Chris Mills Performance got the engine,

and Victor does not know what happened to the rest after that,

and has since lost all the paperwork, and took no photo's

Victor did mention about A9X's starting in 1977/8?

All this is information here for you to debate whether or not this was a #408 A9X build.

Yes Yel,

but I can see in older posts, the road version only went to #405.

I had a bit of a look to see in newspaper archives about this incident, and no luck yet.

Hasn't Mumbo got something to do with Chris Mills? Maybe he can help with the engine verification

There is no build sequence for these. Sure you can number them by PSN but they weren't completed in that order. You can see by the report of them in Eric Blair's book that not even the predicted completion date (car sales date) are in PSN order. The Service/Warranty report on 'fiche gives you the actual completion dates and these will be all over the place too.

I also know of a green car that's is all A9X but isn't in the report either, and it has a PSN higher than all those cars too.

It might be a car like this green one that was built "off the books"?

Where is the Williams St Bridge near the river?

I'm assuming he is talking about in the city?

The only bridge on William St now is the horseshoe bridge and it is no where near the river.

Prob need to find some old maps.  Perhaps there was a William St bridge over the Swan but it was replaced with the Kwinana Fwy?

Nope, Kwinana Fwy bridge was always the Narrows Bridge,  ol' mans 1st job here was knocking up the form-work

for the original left hand bridge. Other is the Causeway Bridge heading east. William st at the time I think would've

terminated at the Esplanade or Riverside Drive

Sorry guy's,

I must of got his two cars mixed up, and I have only been in Perth 24 years.

Victor must of put his other 2 door into a river, and the A9X went off the Horseshoe bridge.

Will clear that up in the morning.

Victor did say that the insurance for the first Holden, payed for the A9X,

but when he crashed the A9X, he had a fight with the insurance company,

because they wouldn't pay as he had just done a claim.

p.s. I did try and look for the Williams street bridge in 1980, and only found a jetty at the end,

but may have since been closed by then.

all good Dave.

locals of the era might remember the Fwy started at the Charles st on ramp

thru West Perth, over the Narrows & up to Canning Hwy at the Raffles hotel.

I'm not that good with distances but wasnt very long.

Dave/NA-PWR, the old boy wouldve been working on the Narrows around mid 50s,

dont know when it was commissioned but I'm a '63 & its the only 1 I can remember.

He must of been doing something silly to go over the William st rail bridge.

Well I did question that Neil, and was just a reply that it is from the Ocean.

This link explains the salt in the river for fishing:-
