I have finally had some time to get here to write this post to give people a bit of a heads up as to what's happening here....

The forum for far too long was just coasting along on a wing and a prayer with very little input and keeping the cost as low as possible as we have never had a stable income to pay for the hosting etc.

Recently I made the decision to move the hosting to a more reliable service and enlist the support of a technical person to assist with the back end work to ensure the place was safe (backed up and securely stored), running properly ( fixing up issues as they arose - stuff that had remained broken or not functional for too long), and enact some upgrades to make stuff work that was wanted (Like Tappatalk for those who use it).

With the throughput of the forum and the size of the database etc, it needed some serious server power which was costly.

Chris from Direct Support Hosting whom i have known for a while kindly offered the assistance we needed to provide the servers, and support as listed above with his skills to get this place back up and running the way it should have been.

This was done at a greatly reduced rate, but still all costs have been paid by me to date to keep this place going and indeed the upgrades.

Unfortunately these costs are mounting, and we have had to look at ways of earning an income to offset these costs to allow the forum to continue.

As such the decision was made to include:

*Some advertising - Top, Side Bar, and Bottom Bar. I was always against advertising - but it earns income and we need this income so we made it as unobtrusive as possible, whilst still getting it to do it's job.

*There will be a membership created where members can pay a yearly fee, and this will remove the adverts (Adverts for direct supporters like Rare Spares and Direct Support Hosting etc. will remain) and also gain access to a members private area.

* Upgrade to the forum software - When funds permit the forum software will be upgraded to the latest version with the plug ins that work so that things like the for sale forms work, the garage, time slips etc all work correctly.

When things are moving along a bit more - I will update with with membership cost, and other plans to keep this place rocking, and i hope that these plans are seen as a positive step for the forum to keep us going and keep us as one of the best Holden, and the absolute best Torana information site on the Internet.

Thanks for your support and to that of the admins and mods who do this all for no personal gain.

Thanks Guys,

I know we have an awesome membership here, and i know that change is always a pain in the ass, and what is worse... I have been AWOL and not kept people up to date with what's going on around here..

So please accept my apologies for not putting this post up earlier, and i hope you all understand that the changes are all designed for the longevity and security of the forum.

Thanks for the support and especially to the Admins and Mods and Chris (DirectSupport) who help to keep it all going!!

Thanks for the update Tiny,

The forum is worth keeping and consequently worth paying for if that is what it takes.

Happy to know the forum will continue

I'd be happy to pay a modest fee if it would allow me to edit my own damn posts! (sorry, pet peeve)

And maybe even some way to moderate our own threads? That way someone with a build thread could soft-delete most of the off-topic garbage that gets posted and make it easier for future readers.

On a side note, I couldnt help but notice there are a number of admin and mods who are no longer active on the forum.

How about replacing these guys with regulary active members who are more commited to GMH Torana and have a better understanding of culture/atmosphere/day to day activity of the forum.

*Some advertising - Top, Side Bar, and Bottom Bar. I was always against advertising - but it earns income

Most forums have advertising so it's no big deal really, I'm for it if it keeps the site going.
