Another question, is a "JP" engine a Bathurst spec engine?

Another question, is a "JP" engine a Bathurst spec engine?

All LJ XU1 202 engines were prefixed with JP. There was only a handful of JP engines that were fitted ex factory with the lighter flywheel and XJ camshaft in 1972 and then there are the 150 list engines in 1973. All the other JP engines (ex factory) were standard XU1 spec 202 engines.

Morning.

Wanting to find out if the numbers on my car match up. Facebook was not much help and I was directed here. I know it has a later engine in it, A friend I bought the car off changed it over around 15 years ago after putting a hole in the side of the original block.

82911JH232244

5/72
ALJ04664B

Model 82911M
Body 04715

Current engine: JP390023.
Orig engine was JP150405

Thanks for any help.

865 cannot be Metro Motors, Morley W.A.  W.A dealers are in Zone 5 also coded as P (Perth).

Dealer 865 is in Zone 2 (NSW) not Zone 5.

John, your spreadsheet has the completion date as 10/02/72.

Hi Glen

Further to the above - The Chassis Number and Body Number are consistent with the VIN and completion date. See screenshot of the VIN disc entry attached. I will send you the correct selling dealer's name by personal message.

Cheers

Bazza

PS - What is the colour of the car please?

Not sure what the hell is going on here and how this car can have this engine number JP390023. The reason I say this is because the original engine is sitting in its original car in SA complete with delivery documents from John H Ellers.

I smell a rat

Dave,

I can tell you that the original engine in the original car is a dual cast block and if you want to know the cast date PM me.

I am just waiting for the owner of the car to ring me as he is busy harvesting at the moment so he will be pissed when he finds out what has happened and I am sure this will be going straight to the fraud squad.

I can appreciate that you are in a difficult position at the moment.

You joined the forum and freely listed your cars details that have now been given the thumbs up numbers wise - that is a good start .

If you confirm the engine block in your car is stamped JP 390023  and the other forum members mate still insists that he has the real JP 390023 in his car then one of you will have to step up to the plate and have police in Vic.or S.A forensically examine ' JP 390023 ' .

Hi

Unless, of course, that the engine that Glen is speaking about also carries the letter "R" designating a repeated number.

Cheers

I forgot about that.

A clear photo of whatever Glen has in his car would be nice.

Bazza,

Excuse my ignorance but I have never heard of a repeated number and the letter "R" before. Can you explain how this comes about please?

I am sure the owner will be stepping up to the plate regarding police inspection as his car is matching numbers has never been stolen in an accident and never left this state so there is no reason for the motor to have been removed and sold off.

On top of that he has owned the car virtually from new so there is documented history.

peterd - It has been reported on this forum, and elsewhere, that if during the engine number stamping process the same number is inadvertently used, the remedy is to stamp the letter "R" in close proximity to the duplicated number.I understand that this protocol was also used on duplicated chassis numbers.

Thanks Bazza,

I have never heard of this B4

Begs the question, if it had an R where does it sit on the 150 list, does that make it number 151?

regards

Pete

Hi Glen,

Any chance you could clarify your position regarding 390023, was it a typo?

I caught up with the other owner of the engine number in question over tthe weekend, and as Peter said he's not that happy. However he did say he's not pissed off with you, just the situation.

Shoot me a PM if you like.

Thanks
