At least you know how to spell...and turn a computer on. My parents can not do the former but not for love or money / use a keyboard. Don't get me started on mice - moving a cursor around a screen defies all convention. :spoton:

Maybe Rory could shed some light on your mysterious "XU-2". But hey if it turns out it wasn't no big deal - You still own 1 of the rarest colours of the rarest Torana. It could very well be just a typical V8 conversion done to most Torana's back in the 70's - 80's.

Walkthrough on how to post pictures.

There was a post on here about a holden dealership had fitted up a few cars back in the 70's with v8's for those willing to pay for it,could be possible as there were turbo lh-lx's fitted up at dealerships.

Most likely a previous owner converted it to v8 as there are quite a few gtr's & xu1's that have had v8s put in,some restored back & some were not.

Thanks for the picture lx5008 but i believe that this is a photo of the 1973 tangerine SA car that had a dealer fitted 308 and also had SS on the guards. Wombat, that bit of info you have supplied me believe it or not is the closest i have come so far in finding this cars first 13 years history. Can you help more ?

The tunnel looks a little"home made" to be a GMH modification.
And as for the exhaust hangers... might be a genuine "mistake"?
My 6/72 strike me pink has 3 brackets for the handbrake cables.... All factory spotwelded to the factory floorpan....
So mistakes do happen!

Cheers Greg..

My best mate..Andy Monks..Lived in Adelaide in the 70s and there was a dealer there that fitted out at least 8 XU1s with 308s. Sure he said 2 were SMP Xu1s..anyway..It was a dealer thing..very popular in SA..Ian McDonald..no relation bought one in Lone ORanger....Dual exhausts with the OEM hangers..Looked factory..I reckon you got one baby!..Lucky you! The boys used them at AIR at the drags.

Mate, I suggest you give the President of the NSW GTR & XU-1 club a call. I have found him to be very helpful, he's the font of all knowledge XU-1. You can get his number from their website.

Have to say it's one of my pet peeves too, The V8 XU-1 was to be the XU-1 V8, not the XU-2. That option code was reserved for the LH SL/R 5000, but they chose to go with the latter.

Incidently, the Sandman Wagon was given the option code of XU-3, and many other cars had XU-(insert number). It was only the XU-1 that was named after its option code and then later the A9X. The VK Group A SS Commodore was given the option number of A9L!!!!!!!

Actually XU-2 was used by a Bedford truck..The pics of the SLR5000 with XU2 stickers was done by Zmood and the styling guys for presentation to Bagshaw and senior execs.

Actually XU-2 had been assigned to the Bedford truck division, but was reassigned to the LH see page 84 of the LH Torana Service Manual for location of the transfer.
