So I shouldn't put XU-2 stickers on the V8 Bedford truck.

So 30 hundred weight would be close to 1.5 tonne then? Those figures were a bit before my time. The metric system was introduced around the time I started primary school.

.......could be possible as there were turbo lh-lx's fitted up at dealerships.

You got any evidence of this? Only Turbo Torrie I'm aware of was the UC SL/T, and that was dealer fitted. Just interested that's all.

JP193308 ! Same batch as brocky's and bondy's 72 bathurst cars ! Produced 5 weeks after the great supercar scare of 1972 ! Sat around at the Elizabeth plant (SA) for nearly 6 months before being sold mid January of 1973 ! Sold in 1986 with its original engine ! JP193308 ! Has had a V8 fitted at some stage ! Urban Myth ! Coincidence ?

Google search - Pages from Australia - XU2 - Top of page !

Very confussing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The strike me pink car was the last to be put into the barrier. Ray Borret was there on the day when it happened. Sorry but none of those cars escaped the crash barrier

Australian Muscle Car issue 9 Page 59

Ray Borrett

QUOTE

There was a pink one, i do remember that,, but i can't recall the other colours. I actually tried to buy one but wasn't allowed to. They didn't have any road compliance or anything.

AMC: Harry says they were rammed into the crash barrier at Lang Lang. Do you remember that ?

RB: Yes, I think thats where they ended up.

Only believe 2% of what you read and 3% of what you hear !!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope we dont have to wait another 35 years to find the truth !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was in Tates workshop in 98 (the old HDT workshops), Ian said at the time that Ray Borret had walked into the workshop and said quote; "well, thats the last one into the barrier this morning". I'd certainly rather believe this over the 100 or so people I have heard claiming to have these things in their sheds. I'll add it to the 20 or so people out there claiming to have Grice A9X hatches in their sheds. There was only 4 of them and 2 extras he bought from other teams. There was only ever 3 XU1 V8's, one was pink, yet this is the one everyone claims to had, why? Because it was the best known thats all.

Im wondering if they crash tested it with the blueprinted and balanced 308 in it or did they drop in a six before they crashed it in to a concrete barrier ? If they did crash it with the 308 in it, What would have been the point as these cars were not going into production. Myth goes it was then buried at Lang Lang.

I found a website with some information on the XU-1 V8, however I cannot vouch for it's accuracy...

http://www.toranagtr...om/ndx/xu-2.htm

According to this page the 3 prototype colours were Strike Me Pink, Sebring Orange and Linamint Green...?

Dont allways believe what you read !!!!!!!!!!!!! Harry calls them the XU-2 and that ill do me !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know if you have read the AMC article on the XU-1 V8 but in that Harry is quoted as saying:

"To me XU-2 was an obvious progression from XU-1 so it was a code name that I used in general reference throughout its development phase. However that name was not officialy ratified at the time of the cars cancellation - which has caused no end of debate among enthusiasts! For this story, however, I will use it in reference to the V8 Torana prototype, for easy of identification and to avoid any confusion."

(Harry Firth AMC issue 9 p 46)

I don't want to argue this to the point of starting a war but personaly i will stick to the opinion it wasn't going to be called XU-2. But then since nothing was finalised name wise, i can't really even try and argue that it would have been called XU-1 series 2 V8 or soemthing like that.

With the issue of cars still being around, i think the chances of that are almost 0 seeing as it would have looked very bad for Holden if a few XU-1 V8s had snuck out the back door!

yeah, if it's the real deal, it's only resurfaced to make a quick buck, but really, they could have got the same sort of money when Brock was around if it's genuine.
