Nice work Maz. Won't rust there again!

I've got to replace both sides of boot floor, rear beaver and spare wheel well and bottom of rear quarters. A lot to do but hopefully won't take too long.

Keep up the good work my friend.

Marty

No ..your not wrong there Marty..should see me out..
Im going to see if i can get genuine lower rear
quarter before giving patch maker a buzz.i def wont b getting rares.near enough aint good enough specially
if you have high expectations..

Got the beaver on today.it came up good..gee my bloody
knees are sore lol..had to weld a pin on corner to pull
the panel out flush.i lowered the amps and wire speed
and honestly wasnt much difference just less chance of
a burn though and spots slightly smaller and i could of
Ran the entire length without burning through.couldnt
do that on the higher amp setting.was only doing 4-5
spots ar a time and using wet rag to cool welds.just
about out of wire and gas too.grind welds and pinholes
then prime....,getting there..

Hi Rob..yes its a milwaukee magnetic ground

I'm happy with the clamp I've got...………….I just had an "experience" last week doing a patch repair on my windscreen frame.

I was using pretty strong residual magnets to hold the repair piece in place and when I started to weld, all hell broke loose looking through the helmet!

The magnets were stealing the welding wire away. :fool:

I think magnets make welds shitty.
If I use a magnet to hold metal in position and tack weld it. If pops and farts as if I’ve got the gas off.

Haha..yeah i notice that sometimes too guys.

i just googled and says magnets disrupt the arc through
the magnetic field and keep them away 6 inches.
Ive welded an inch away quite a few times..
I had to use tape to hold this panel in position as
the mini and panel clamps couldnt hold it on their own..

Paint stripping yesterday using spi.avoid using this
near seams as it will creep in there and you wont get
it out.i tape over seams and crevices.didnt have to
here but.couple goes and she was near all off bar some
red oxide here there.i used a 3M drill honey cone strip
it wheel to get the rest off and the wire wheel..

Had to get the rear in epoxy today as cold weather is
upon us down here.was 14 deg and borderline to paint in shed..treated an area and tidied up a few pins holes i missed.its amazing what you miss when you think its
ready to prime.sanded with p80 wax & greased then
used 3M tac rag.the gun caught me out and got a couple
runs but i know why.too much material and the weather
wasnt helping.nxt is to pull the dent out where shes
been hit.

Brain fade day..i locked both the trolly wheels as i
Unspotted the tail light housing from the top of the
back panel to pull out a dent and seems i only tacked
the tube bar that holds the frame together i yanked
on the panel with hands and she folded up and pushed
up the opposite beaver panel under neath as landed on
Tool i had laying there..i was going to weld it fully
and put another bar across as i bought a hand pulling
to try and get the dent out,,..damn...silly me..

Hey maz, are you still chasing a rear lower 1/4 p/s? When my car is on the road I was going to see if anyone can use all my left over panels I didn't use as I just cant bring myself to throw in local scrap metal bin. Anyways, as luck would have it includes a lower p/s 1/4 that came with rolling shell project a I started with but couldn't use. Now IT IS A RARE'S but is a really old silver/grey version so may differ from present day black coloured ones. Long story short you are more than welcome to have it as better than cutting roof panels up ect. I notice you are in Tassie but shouldn't cost much to post, if doesn't work out for you, all it has cost is postage (around $10 I reckon). Cheers Paul (rust is surface rust only)

Maz, don't want any money for it as was going to throw out anyway and would rather see it go to good use. The panel is good up until the base of body line then goes pear shaped. As I mentioned only cost of postage to loose, but I thought would be better that trying to make one from scratch or use a genuine holden NOS roof (nice one rob, like it!) PM me if you want to go ahead maz, cheers paul.

If you tie the springs into place with a strap or even rope, they wont be an issue when you undo the jaysus nut.

Doesnt take a lot to keep one end secure so they dont give drama

Cheers

You can get reinforcement plates for the lower control arms here Maz, check the bottom of this page.  I bought some muffler hanger parts from this Gent recently and the service was spot on.
