cheers heath :)

(and work on his car is fking great. if not the best i've seen.)

i have zero interest or want in anyone leaving this forum.

all i did was very abruptly state "if you don't like my work, keep it to your fking self".

nothing else. zilch.

and i felt it should be said. hasn't changed.

now,

it may be the case where i took something completely out of context,

or

it may be al let slip arrogance, and was picked up on it.

will never know.

regardless, have no interest in discussing it further,

nor al leaving because he thinks there's a complete prick on this forum.

Shit I might be missing something in the interpretation

But where does Al knock your work

As far as I can see see he was just offering an insight into the way he cut he's gaurds

You asked for him to put up a photo and he did, nothing more

I have enjoyed watching his thread and I think he's doing a great job

Its got me fkd why you took offence to him

I agree with the above post.....I have met Al and done business with him and would only call him friendly honest and very help full and a easy guy to talk to and his work is second to none ....I believe he was just giving you a idea on how he cut & fitted his flairs as you ask to see his pics ....

Never have flared guards, don't have any intention to do so,but i just can't see how it seems to be that something has been read

into this?.

Plenty around here that have done it (flares), and no doubt they all did it in different ways according to personal preference based on

experience or other peoples experience and help, advise, the do's and don'ts etc.

FFS,what is wrong with learning from other peoples mistakes or achievements and using the info. around here to an advantage

instead of the other alternative.

believe if i pretend the rust in the door is NOT there, for 24 hours

..then it magically disappears by itself!

so.. that's good at least.

for anyone new to resto like me

do NOT buy this.. thinking it will help sand back your car.

it won't. (barely good for sanding primer to prepare for paint, if that even.)

zIMAG1886.jpg

buy a bigger more powerful model, or an air operated beast.

(fortunately got a refund.)

wood! ha, that's what the guy behind bunnings counter told me with refund.

said i should of been told too, by person who sold it to me.. if i mentioned what i was working on to him. can't remember if did or not.

and yup, i spent so little on it it was a likely outcome. (was wishful thinking in hindsight)

can i weld or what!

zIMAG1964.jpg

well, um, no.

it's a mess.

(and by god, am not attempting to run thicker piece along underneath, am sorry to now be saying.

would blast holes bigger than thumb trying to marry to thin sheet i would.)

zIMAG1965.jpg

but, for those contemplating welding, first time or not, has to be done.

panels don't flex when press against them anymore (!!)

so gotta be done.

fibreglass reinforced etch filler, fuzzy much!?

(wanted heaped on to fill, inside and out, so didn't care about look)

zIMAG1971.jpg

by the way, new best friend for removing paint and filler.

zIMAG1972.jpg

cut back.

zIMAG1973.jpg

door closed

zIMAG1988.jpg

have run out of etch filler, so have etch primed and waiting to dry

so can do another filler top coat/fill using normal filler, before final sand back and prime.

For a first time job it looks like not too bloody bad :)

Have never done that before but something that might come in handy for the next one is a small  panel clamp/s and some small copper tabs (about 2mm thick and as square as needed to fit in space,it pulls the panels together and the copper bits soak up some heat and sort of helps ).

never heard of that, sounds like a very good trick, thankyou :)

heat was such a bloody problem, add to that time waiting to cool even

The reason why I did the flat bar curved to suit over what you have done is, all those fingers needing to be welded as well which would absolutely suck. Hahaha. You aim the wire at the thickest material and kind drag it onto the thinner or the other way around I can't remember tbh. Good job though.

braver than i, is all i can say!

would of been a shamozzle if i tried it ;)

after realizing i was using my welder as a plazma cutter haha

only had the balls to tack weld the fingers

I'd have to disagree, I had one, and I basiccly sanded back my entire car with the same one. I used a combination of paint stripper and 40-80grit then 120 to finish it off. :)
120grit won't be sufficent to sand back paint.

I'd still avoid that brand though, for the sake of another 30 bucks.
