Nice pics of all the Toranas blokes. The 'pink' XUI (sorry Brad - don't know the proper colour name) is from my home town in Tassie. Very nice car :D

Do you mean the one with number plates "FRONT-BACK"? man that thing is cool lol.

I know it may seem like a very perculiar request coming from me or anyone on these forums, but I would really like some photos of the Buick Regal (I think) Lowrider in Candy Red with Pinstripes. It was painted by a Mexican and shipped over here a few days ago, it wasn't even washed! It won best paint job and the paint job is six years old, that's how good it is. My airbrush teacher and student mate (who's in that Lowrider club in Melb) would both kill for few non-blurry photos. I'm not sure whether you guys would actually photograph a car like that, but if you did I would love for you to send a photo or two.

Don't worry about the kid, he's fine. Parents were on the news tonight, and despite the accident, will still be attending the Nats next year.

Let the media stick that in their pipe!

I'd just like to say in the driver's defence, even if he was a new driver I'm sure CAPA would have had some high standards when it comes to employing someone to do stunts in a ute like that.

Secondly, he is human. Humans make errors. Two years ago I was at the Melbourne show watching a pretty sweet demo by the Holden Stormriders. Half way through there routine when it came to the stunt where they drive bumper to bumper in box formation one of the Stormriders (who are pretty experienced blokes) didn't do a 180 degree turn properly, he probably got 120 and got tapped by another Stormrider, putting him into a wall. S^$% happens. The only reason no one got hurt was because a) there was no one near the barriers, if you got too close to the fence security would ask you to keep moving. B) it was a concrete barrier.

Personally I'd put it down to negligence/breach of a duty of care on Chic Henry's part. For someone who has to rely on patrons to fork out money to line his pockets, he doesn't seem to be trying to hard to make sure they live to return the year after. WTF was he thinking having a drifting event, where cars have a high chance of spinning/overshooting corners (even professional drifters screw up, but they do it in more open areas away from crowds) with only a 1m high chain link fence between the cars and the crowd. I reckon most people can work out that it won't stop a 1000hp ute from going through it. :furious:  :finger:

(we need the soapbox smily back! never realised there was a smily limit either)

the drifter wasnt driving the 1000hp capa ute as many people think, he was driving a stocky. the 1000hp ute died in front of us on the cruise track.

Makka is correct, that ute was just an SS painted up like the drift ute. That's why Bolger was driving the Monaro.

Also agree with svenikus - sometimes shit does happen, it's a motorsport event and we are all aware of the risks in attending.

Pat - It's great to hear that they'll be coming back next year, I'll bet Chic was pretty stoked when he saw that footage!

Hey guys, some great pics there. I didn't make it up to the event but seeing all those nice cars sure makes you itchy, thanks for letting us in on the fun.

As for the accident, too many ppl have said too much already from all circles no doubt but yeah, accidents happen I don't think it matters who was driving, we all know how easily it can go wrong. I'm not blaming Chic but the first thing I thought when I saw the footage was that I couldn't believe it was just a chain mesh fence and not a solid fence, for an area where there are going to be cars drifting like that better protection needs to be taken for the safety of ppl watching. I'm sure it will be fixed for next year, perhaps a good thing to come out of the incident.

Cheers,

Jugs, appreciate the link mate. From what i've heard no photos would do it justice but it looks pretty nuts as is. I'm suprised it was an Impala though.. had the impression it was a Buick until I saw the back of it. Maybe one of my mates was mistaken about which car it was (he thought his friend installed the hydraulics on it) but it wasn't an Impala. Thanks anyway

Did you guys just see No Mercy!? Holy shit!

From the vid it looked like the ute was just going too fast
Seems he really cocked up the overcorrection when he lost it. Must have still been learning

Kids always want to sit close to the fence.....always. that way they can be close to the action and actually see it.
That or they have to go on dads shoulders all the time.

Unfortunate accident. But it shouldn't effect the event.

Great series of pics marty!

I see you got SMOKEM's car on there :)

That maroon hotrod was the one that i helped build the blown chev for! And the owner was cool enough to let me take it for a spin :)

Certainly some nice cars out :)
Cheers!

your ute struggler?

No, too clean and not red enough !!!!

That SOLID really is..........solid !!

I still cant get over James Scarlett knocking all the corners off the HZ GTS at both the eliminations and finals, it was like he meant to do it. Didn't seem to worry him much..........

Summernats seemed very tame this year & not that many new cars from what I saw.
