The best laid plans..... about 8:10am cruising along the freeway towing L8 about 30 mins from Newcastle when the two shackle bolts locating the rear axle passenger side of the trailer call it quits. An exciting 250+ metres of travel sees us pulled over to the side of road with no major damage. The force of the axle being liberated from the spring throws the rear of the car against the other side of the trailer, breaks the bolts holding down the passenger side ramp which then proceeds to dance around against the bolt-ons. :(

Unhooked car from trailer and headed to Newcastle solo where I managed to buy some new shackles. Another 30 mins back to trailer where we managed to fit the new shackles, not exactly the correct size but I was hoping they would hold at least get back home.

By about 11:30'ish we were back mobile but my enthusiasm, as well as the lingering doubt about the temporary shackles, was drained so I headed back home at a sedate 90 kph. Now have some paint work and trailer fixes to do before McHappy day in Nov.

The pics above look great and I did hear from Tiny that close to 150 Toranas turned up!! Definately not happy missing this year's event but ,as they say, it could have been worse.......and there is next year..

Many thanks to those that stopped with offers of help, especially Alan Reid & co who not only stayed with the car&trailer while I did the runner to Newcastle for parts but also helped with the trailer resurrection.

How frustrating Howard? Wish I was up there, but alas, not this year.

The fella's are getting good, they already downloaded some pics last night. Apparently 15 odd cars staying at the same hotel!!!! The guys are saying it is one of the best Toranafest's ever. Enjoy:- http://canberratoran...oranafest07.htm

Me and Dad ended up making it to Toranafest. Great day, definately worth the drive. Lots of very nice cars up there. I really enjoyed it. Quick question though - We passed Litre8 on the way up there on the side of the freeway, car on the trailer, trailer off the towing car and stopped on the side of the freeway with all passengers on the side of the road about 50kms from toranafest. Is anyone able to tell me whether they made it to toranafest as they wernt there at around 2pm when we left to make the trip home.
What happened??

It was a great day. I was really happy, my car ran faultlessly all the way, didn't go past 1/4 on the gauge. There were some fantastic cars there. It looked great with the 3 manarin red SLR5000's together too. Howard, I saw you on the side of the road on the way up, but by the time I realised it was you I had no chance of pulling over, plus I was in the wrong lane with cars all round me. I don't think there was much I would have been able to do though. Sorry to hear about your bad luck though, maybe see you in November.

What a top day!

Again we got a bit of sun this year, Thankfully the sunscreen and hat saved us 95%!

All i can say is COngratulations to the Hunter valley club, What an awesome event, Well run and well planned!

It was awesome to meet with so many forum members who saw me throughout the day as well as the group photo that was taken in the afternoon! (Sucked in to those who left early :P)

Meeting Harry Firth and passing on one of our shirts was a great experience and it was really amazing to see him at the show and doing so well!

Anyhow, I'm about stuffed So i'll sort through my photos and posts some pics in the next few days!

Cheers!

What a top day!! The Hatch for once did'nt make a fool out of me and ran faultlessly the whole trip. Got some things signed by Harry Firth and for a bloke of his age to be supporting events like these is a credit to the man himself. The quality of cars and the quantity of cars this year was far better than last year and lets hope next year is even bigger!

Cheers

Josh

Many thanks to the Hunter Valley Torana Club members - a job very well done.

Great weather and the perfect location with plenty of room. Some very high quality cars there, but the pick for me was Tuffgong's ute. What a wild creation.

Well done guys.

Craig.

:D Hi All,

I am tired, sunburnt but extremely happy the day ran well with no hitches and we had 154 cars on the day.

As Tiny said it was good to put a face to the names, but I got to get a better User name !!!!

Harry and Dave Maclean were terrific with their shared knowledge of Toranas.

I can now sleep for about six months until we start the next Toranafest 2008.

Remember 21st Septemeber 2008, but its going to be hard to top this year any ideas and or improvements would be welcomed.

Going to bed now, feel really sorry for those Victwegians and Cane Toads a long drive ahead of them!

Mick McC (SStorana) and Pete are still hard at it doing the books, glad I can't count!!

Garry

Excellent day, good drive up there, good drive back, got to give it a squirt here and there & have some fun, what more can you ask for on a Sunday!

Excellent turn out of cars, and what a variety, especially that cool Viva GT.

Finally got to snap heaps of photo's of a Saffron Torana.

I would have to say that just about every colour of Torana made was there, correct me if I am wrong.

Tuffgong, your cars are wicked, didn't get a chance to hear you start them up, suffice to say I am sure they would have sounded sweet. Also we all got the opportunity to see your first class work on your cars, if you are ever in Sydney and feel like panel beating/spraying a car, I am sure a number of us would like to know!

It was excellent to meet Harry, what a legend, not only attending but offering his advise and words of wisdom! With a sense of humour!

Also great to catch up with everyone, its been too long between catching up and put had the opportunity to put forum member faces to user names!

Well, I am sunburnt, tired, legs ache and ready to hit the sack.

Look forward to seeing some more photo's!

And thank you to the Hunter Valley Torana club for organising a great event.

Fantastic day. Congratulations to Mick McCardle and all the crew from the Hunter Valley Torana Club.

Had a great day and the NSW Torana Club managed to pick up a couple of hard fought trophies (never seen so many torana's in one place).

I was fortunate enought to receive a trophy for best original LX/UC 2 door and another member got one for his SLR 5000.

Here's a few photo's to sample before the other guys load heaps on.

Regards,

Mick.

Awesome day, congrats to all involved- had a ball. It's a shame it only happens once a year. Great weather, cars, atmosphere, company etc. Was fantastic to meet Harry Firth and get some things signed- what an amazing character. Bring on next year, if all goes according to plan we'll bring the girl's freshly completed LC too!

Cheers,
Andrew

PS Howard sorry to hear of your misfortune mate, I'm sure the beast will be good as new in no time at all.

G'day,
What a great day . I missed the pic for the forum crew but did meet a few. I'd like to say I'm a newb in this new torana scene, but these shows just make me wanna buy another one and get mine up to spec.
Congrats to the organisers and all who attended, a fantastic day and thanks to those who appreciated the little TA with her skinnys on for the day(the dragways are better) but she wore her old shoes today.
The atmosphere was a credit to all Torana owners, be proud!!!
And the rev up for brocky at lunch was great too!!
Harry was great, and in the few moments I spoke to him, the wisdom in his face and words were clear and humourous, a treat.
Cheers
