To be brutally honest, if you can't qualify within 30% you probably need to go back and do some sprints etc and improve your driving skills. No inexperienced driver should be out there getting lapped a couple of times each race by a pack of crazy sports sedans.
I've seen HQ's run with Sports Sedans at P.I. and Calder, so unless the sports sedans are much faster interstate, qualifying within 130 shouldn't be too hard. Tracks like Sandown that have 2 long straights are a bit harder.
Earlier this year at Phillip Island, the fastest sports sedan qualified in 1.38, if you add 30% you get 2.07 which is fairly easy to do if you have a V8 on board.

Is my maths right? That means they would catch you in about 4 and a half laps?
Maybe thats where this formula could descriminate? No sports sedans? No NC cars? As they have there own category.
I dunno?

Hmmm, pity there was never a Group A VH. Building a Group C rep will mean flares and bigger wheels and tyres which sounds expensive
At the moment I have an endless supply of cheap tyres, as long as Commodore Cup keeps going but they're only 225/60x16, not big enough to give it the group C look.

Did those group C Commodores run standard size (width) front hubs and rear axles and just rely on wheels with big offset (like the A9X) ?

Its still happening, I've just been busy with my last race meeting at Phillip Island the other week to do much with it.

Pretty much we're at the point where someone (me I guess) needs to draft up some rules, which we'll post up on here and maybe hand out to some people to and see what everyone thinks.

Maybe a roll call of people from each state who are interested might give us a better idea of what kind of numbers we are talking about here....

I'll put my hand up!

Count me in, if we follow group c/a rules, or close to the day rules.

I am in, but my car would be a fair way off.
Here is my beastie... It is basically a rolling shell at the mo. It does have a 253 V8 and auto currently fitted

In the mean time, I could be invited but score no points with my sedan.

Pete, you'd be most welcome to run your sedan with us, I'm in the same boat as you anyway until my hatch is ready.

Okay guys, been busy working on a set of rules to start with. At this point it only covers group c, and will look at group a if there is enough interest.
I have used the cams rule set for historic cars as a baseline (this covers Na - Nc and Group C - A), but I've narrowed it down to group c and then amended the areas that I believe make the original format too expensive which will hopefully make it more attractive to people looking to build a car.
Let me stress this is not a final set of rules, just a first draft, and I'm after everyones opinion... so feel free to pick it to bits.. :)

Thanks to Kev for hosting it for me!

haha mmm bit of a typo there, think I just missed a space.... doh!

There are other things to be considered, as mentioned earlier this class would have to be run under the Sports Sedan class, as there is usually a sports sedan category run at most state meetings so there will be no problems getting a run. The other thing that comes to mind is do we have any kind of register for who is running what or do we just leave it open?

Good point, great idea, we dont need 10 of the same turning up at the one meeting, you could probably get away with a couple, as per the day, with different names on the car.
