Does rare spares still sponsor the event to the extent they used to? how about yella terra?
You can sort of tell when times changed. it has alot of stuff from the early days, there are blokes walking round with a single stubby, in stubbies and singlets, a few sheilas hanging around.
Then the footage from SN20 there are blokes with a cup of beer or JD or whatever in both hands, no shirts, screaming at the camera, and skanky looking girls flogging around everywhere.
you couldnt tell an exact date, but you can definitely pick the difference

why do the yobbo's think the car's on the cruise track with blowers out the bonnet or a healthy sounding v8 need to have any help in turning the tyre's. And is it really a smart idea to have your fingers under the rear guards of a car doing a skid?
i have thought about going to the nats but wouldnt take my girlfriend

just goes to show how many true enthusiasts are on this forum

and how much of a shambles this years show realy was ,
when i posted this thread i thought twice about posting it because i thought you,s would say something like look at this wanker having a sook but the thread came from the heart and ive been coming back looking every day to find more and more people that have issues also maybe this thread needs to be shown to one of the major sponsors like rare spares so they can try change things

as for the alcahol ban thats not gonna happen especialy if the next nats are on new years eve!!!!

I'm glad you brought the issue up as it's something that's obviously on people's minds.
I also want to say thanks to every member who's posted, or chosen not to for keeping this thread on topic and completely above board.
Good on GMH-Torana.com!

It is illegal to assault someone without justification eg self defence.
It is illegal to be drink and be drunk in a public place.
It is illegal to yell offensive language.
It is illegal to sexually assault people eg grabbing women on the chest.
It is illegal to sell liquor to minors, and also to sell it to intoxicated people.
Summernats has to get with the times, or Chic Henry will find himself in court more than out cruising in his cars. He is the boss and takes responsibility for the event. Allowing this to go on is irresponsible and illegal

Sexual assault can be verbal also, that was the worst thing in my opinion.
Did anyone else feel there wasn't enough events happening, It seemed like to me they held a weekend event (2, mabey 2 1/2 days worth) over 4 days. I thought it would be all happening at once but at times I felt like there wasn't much to see or do. and the security guards not allowing us back to our tent was what pushed me over the edge, so on saturday arvo I had enough and went home.

Was a reason given by the security guards why you were not allowed back to your tent?
I have never camped there but I cant fathom this one. Damn sure if I were camping there I would want access to my tent. Apart from the packed pavilions there there is bugger all shade around.

To my way of thinking if people want to sit in their tents and I can understand why they would then that would make a safer environment all round. Thieves are less likely to appear if people are around.
Another problem to add to Chics growing list....

Well Chic, I think you have to take it one step further.
Oh and Summernats wasnt held over the the New Years Eve Date, as someone mentioned above^ this year it was from Wed 2 Jan - Sun 6 Jan 2008. In the past, yes it was.
And for the record I have been about 10 times over the years. I first went there on a Friday way back in 87 with my SLR LH Torana. All I did was sit on Northbourne Ave for a few hours and then cruised with every one else for most of the day.
A few years later I then helped a guy with the poo brown Datsun 1600 that used to enter the Burout Comp a lot in the car he called "DATEZY"
I have only ever entered once (about 4 years ago) and that was in my Mach 1 Mustang. I wasnt to worried about my car as it needs a full resto anyway.
Over the years it is basically the same, the cruise road around Natex at night has always been feral and I have learnt to just blend in and not cause any trouble. I dont normally drink either.
As I am not a heavy drinker, banning or restricting booze wouldnt affect me one bit. Actually as someone has mentioned before, The Muscle Car Masters is a good example of an event where there is very little trouble and is a good event for that reason.

and its illegal to drive a car drunk, as I would presume would happen there.Summernats, and Chic Henry have a lot to answer for about condoning the behaviour of these drunken idiots. Society does not allow this sort of behaviour, and our laws reflect this:
It is illegal to assault someone without justification eg self defence.
It is illegal to be drink and be drunk in a public place.
It is illegal to yell offensive language.
It is illegal to sexually assault people eg grabbing women on the chest.
It is illegal to sell liquor to minors, and also to sell it to intoxicated people.

They proberly only banned people bringing alcohol in to boost sales for the sponsersI watched that 90 min DVD that come with the latest SM Mag (first one i have bought in about 4 years) and it was interesting to hear Chic's comments about the event a few years back...... "one big change from this year, is we have banned people from bringing in Grog.. that cut back the number of yobbo's that normally come in" ... or something like that.
Well Chic, I think you have to take it one step further.

I myself don't mind getting blotto once in a while but I wouldn't care if they did ban grog because I went for the cars, not a piss-up

I came over and went to Summernats 17. That was great. But I was borrowing a car to get to event from the people I was staying with and had to be back by 3pm each day. For ages I have been wanting to come back to another one to see all the things I missed..........................But now I think that I didn't miss a thing and my desire to return has shrunken dramatically.

It is very interesting to read about how this years natts went. Pitty about all the carnage and crap behaviour.
I havent been for a few years now, but i went two years in a row i think 02 and 03. From a chics perspective i guess i can see two sides myself.
When i went up i was warned heavily from my dad, and 3 brothers what sumernats was all about, i was basically grilled and fully informed about where to go, where not to go, and to watch out for the thugs. But my boyfriend at the time also had been up previously to knowing me and knew not to take me to certain areas of the complex.
I had a blast up there, yes there were the yobbos, but being a car chic and going to every car show and event under the sun, ive seen it all before. yeah maybe as its a bigger event more of them, but you just ignore them.
The first year i didnt actually cop much crap, a few comments hear and there, but the second year i went up there, i copped more only becuase we accidentally walked past the bar, forgetting where we were at the complec we walked straight past the bar which i now hear isnt there. But yeah the guys yelled out a few crap things and we both just kept our heads down and kept walking.
what im trying to say is, yeah i was around 18 yrs old, i wore skimpy clothes as most chics do at that age. Im not saying that invites guys to treat you like crap, im just saying in a car wolrd, in todays world, you cant be soo niave to not think some drunk guys wont say a few retarded comments at you.
I hate hearing all my mates this year saying they will never ever take there wives to summernatts. To me i feel like fair enough if the girls arent into it, but dont stop them if they want to come. I can garentee if you have your wife, gf up there, your weekend might end up different. You might not notice the crap as much.
When guys are up there on there own probably enjoying a few drinks themselves, they see the other guys acting up, and naturally go, i wont ever bring my wife. but if you have your wife up there, you would probably without trying, you would maybe not go to those certain areas.
i dont like hearing cars were hurt, afterall thats the whole event, its not about men getting drunk its CARS!!!
im all for getting rid of most the grog, i think you will always need it there, but yeah have set areas and i love the comment about opening a bar up after a certain time, just that alone would stop it all i wreckon. The biggest probelm is these troubled people crack open a can at 8am when they get up and dont stop. If you make it harder for them so there sober or hung over like a skunk for most the day, then the families can all enjoy the day and then if they want to go feral at night, all the nice cars can be locked away.
as much as all the stuff sounds bad i will go back eventually, for me its not the wankers stopping me going its the funds. and i know in a few years ill have kids and i cant wait to take them there. and i hope all you guys do change your mind and give it another try, cos id love to see all your cars up there.
And one last thing, those guys only get that drunk and pathetic, cos they want what we have and they know they will never have anything like the cars we own!! unfortuantely the cars get hurt. This thread just makes me wish i had a car i could do a mean skid and choke those wankers out!!!

This is what I have done as well, warned guys who take their girlfriends/wives etc where to avoid.

And you are absolutely correct, in saying if the wife/girlfriend is into cars then why shouldnt she be able to go as well.
I have taken my kids there, my daughter has been twice and my sons once. I have no problems taking them and will take them again.
