I too was visiting friends with my wife when I stumbled accross an LX SS hatch sitting in front of a house, car was all there including hubcaps. Knocked on the door and asked who owned the car, the lady got her son in law who had owned this thing since new. I asked him if he was keen to sell he said no. Left my name and number and thought nothing of it.
Sitting on my computer 6-mths later and got a phone call from a guy who asked if I was keen to buy his car, had to think which one did I leave my calling card on ?? . Anyway he told me he thought it was worth close to 2k, asked him if he was negotable and offered $1600 and he was happy with that as he had owned the old girl from new and done some 453,000ks in it.
When I went to collect the car I asked him if he had the original books, he fumbled in the shed and pulled the original folder with manuals for the radio, service books, as well as the original registration certificate.
She may be a 202 4-speed and requires a resto but all original and one owner!
Just goes to show there are still some great bargains to be had
She is on the following page;

On the mesh headlight covers, I'd hang onto them, great 'period' item.
I've been chasing a set of them or the clear Aunger type cover for my targa hatch now for over 12 months.
If you decide to give them the flick, drop me a pm.
Welby

Cant say im not jealous! But well done. Its a great find and excellent to see the benefits of knowing your cars! We all dream of spotting that bargain im sure.
I had similar luck (well kind of....) picking up some parts from a wreckers and i noticed a genuine sandman sitting in his yard. Hed got a lot of the good bits off it thinking it was just an old panno but I got him to leave the power steering and air con on and got the whole thing for 1000 bux. Original interior, full length headlining original engine, matching numbers 253 HZ sandy in its original colour - 'mistral grey'. Just love it when youre in the right place at the right time.
Well done man. Look forward to the pics.
This is my score, how she looked then.

I found mine at a car show, where an Old bloke had a Hand drawn sign in his window with LX SS For Sale written.
Relatively Rust Free, L20 SS Hatch for $4500 with a heap of extras and all the paper work etc

Was meant to be a legitimate question ... If there are GTHO's, SL/R's, Xu1's etc found in all states of disrepair in back yards, sheds, etc - has anyone ever seen a VC Brock in this sort of state ?
Or is it more the case that people with these later models have always looked after them and few were or became daily drivers over the years?

"I think" he bought it second hand for about $16k or so and sold it about 4 years later for about $12k as he had no room for it when he left home. Wish that one stayed in the family for sure ...
