Think so.Remember when the old Copper Gasket man posted on this forum about his bargain XU-1 he bought off the Trading Post for $2,000. He had everybody fooled

I also seen the add and missed out on buying that car by a few hours.Remember when the old Copper Gasket man posted on this forum about his bargain XU-1 he bought off the Trading Post for $2,000. He had everybody fooled

A old man picked up the phone and the way he was explaining it was
a genuine xu1 and he didn't have a clue on what it was worh.
He advertised the car as a sports model but the give away was in the add the engine number was jp.

was in Melbourne trading post before the prices went mad
The ad read " LC XU1, 90% complete in pieces, needs some work, webers, spare body $3500 phone 059 -******"
Cant remember the phone number got it written down somewhere
eventually after a lot of haggling I got it for $2750.
It needed a bit of work: New floors both sides in the front, new inner sill drivers side, all the wiring was stuffed in a Mlik crate and the wiring for the instrument cluster was all blue wire: new lower front guards and lower rear quarter panels
just all the usual stuff for a 30 year old car.
There was a 186 short motor hanging in the engine bay .
Bonnet not fitted, boot lid not fitted no glass fitted, fuel tank not fitted, Aussie 4 speed in the boot, same with the head. Globe bathurst wheels fitted but no tyres on the rims
So I borrowed my father in laws nissan truck to go and get it and came home with an LC XU1 loaded with spares and the truck also loaded up as well. Mother in law takes one look and says "My God, Peter what have you done now?"
Now I race the thing in Historic Races and it goes well. before the "Spit and polish merchants" have a go at me for racing a genuine car I will say they were built to be race cars and to race hard and that's what I intend to do with it.

If you look at the video on you tube its there Car #66.
cheers
